The Mets are never going to trade deGrom or Noah to us. Public relations disaster for them.

This. There are just not a lot of ace pitchers out there this season. Better chance to package Drury and Frazier for a lesser starter.

You can't pay Machado, Harper, Stanton, and then add in big money for Judge, Sevy, and Sanchez, etc.

Yes. They traded for him and didnt win anything then lost him to FA.

But really its apples and oranges. The D-Backs gave up crap prospects to get him. To get Manny, we would be giving up our top prospects.

When did the Yankees acquire a 26 year old superstar in the mid-2000s?

Tim Raines was very helpful as a part-time player for the late 1990s teams. No reason to put him down. It was a good acquisition.
Standings: Big Inning 32-16; Blue Cut 27-21; Shoo Fly 26-22; Husk 22-26; Frank Pierce 21-27; Iowa City 16-32.

Those were 90s acquisitions (with the exception of Justice in 2000). I meant more along the lines of assembling an entire team of all-star-caliber position players (A-Rod, Giambi, Sheffield, Damon, Abreu) without addressing a glaring need like starting pitching. If a Machado deal goes through, I trust that Cashman has something planned for starting pitching.

    3) he's does pretty well vs sale/ sox

But what if hes acquiring Machado because there are no starting pitchers worth a damn on the market?

Yes and no. In theory, I agree with you. In a truly open market with a ton of teams this would be the case. But in reality, it's hard to get "full value" for a player in the trade market. We already would've traded Frazier for an MLB ready starter of equal value if we could have.

There are only 29 teams to deal with and a majority of those teams tend to overvalue their own players. It explains why there aren't more prospect for prospect type deals.

that's a legit concern sweet lou

but unlike in balt he won't be the biggest star

    that could make a difference

it also makes being a rental not all bad it's like a trail run
