The Official A.J. Cole Performance Discussion

Everyone wanted Cole. Everyone said Cashman failed by not getting Cole. Now we finally have our Cole.

    Cole.

^ I was thinking the same thing!

Next, Cashman may sign Nat "King" Cole.

I’d trade Kate Smith for him straight up.

Who the hell is A.J. Cole? I can't find him on any minor league affiliate.

No way. They should ARod her. Let her work with the minor league God Bless America singers for the rest of the year and then she should just go away. Maybe sing on Sunday Night Baseball next year.

Great, a lousy pitcher with a 13+ era that is out of options.

Seems like we replaced a mop up guy in Hale who just threw 2 scoreless innings for another mop up guy who has been giving up runs in mop up duty.

    Wrong Cole

Larry will fix him in no time. Piece of cake.

So he will pitch two innings one game and be gone. Just like Hale.

Doesn't a DFA'd player have to clear waivers before a team can trade the player? If so, then this transaction suggests that Cashman is willing to take the risk that he can get Cole through waivers, then assign him to the minors to see if he can become an asset. [Yes, I know this strategy did not work with Trayce Thompson.]

As has been pointed out, Cole has been a top 100 prospect in the past - IMO, very low risk move.

As far as Hale versus Cole, Cole is in his age 26 season and has 26 games (19 starts/110 innings ) at the ML level in his career. In comparison, Hale will be 31 before the end of the year and has 67 games (20 starts/180.2 innings) in the majors. IMO, no brainer.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

Re: The Official A.J. Cole Performance Discussion

Interesting to see what the Yankees do with Cole when Kahnle and Bird are back this week. He’s pitched well enough to keep his spot and doesn’t have options and wouldn’t make it through waivers. Is it worth optioning Holder to give him an extended look? He might be our 6th starter now too unless Adams is ready.

I’d option/DFA Shreve before Holder right now.

No options for Shreve and can’t see them DFAing him. It’s Holder to AAA, Cole DFA’d, or Austin or Torreyes to AAA with a short bench.

Re: The Official A.J. Cole Performance Discussion

Depending on what Germán does in his next start, Cole might be stretched out to take his role as 5th starter. German has options, Cole doesn’t.
