Re: 2018 Aroldis Chapman Peformance Thread

He walked one batter and gave up two stolen bases tonight and he just eked out a save. With less than 20 pitches, he’ll be available tomorrow afternoon if needed.

Back to back games where he's struck out the side. Safe to say he's back.

Presumably, Cashman signed the fireballer free agent last season to a 5-year, $18M annual salary to tame the Red Sox in the 9th inning.

That was a horrible loss last night and he's not Rivera but nobody is. He's still a damn good closer.

The walk rate is pathetic. That's a large sample size to have a 6+ era.

That's too much money to a relief pitcher. If he opts out, let him go.

Agreed, let him walk if he opts out.

Boone isn't consistent with his late inning decisions. He doesn't rely on his recent memory. Case in point: Against the NY Mutts, Chapman crapped his bed by getting no hitter out and Jonathan Holder was summoned to bail him out.

Yesterday night, Chapman once again imploded and the bases were jammed with 2 outs. The next batter is JD Martinez a right-handed power hitter. Boone should have called for the RHP Holder at that moment in time. Righty against righty!

Chap hadn't pitched in 5 days! That's on Boone and Rothchild both seemed to be unprepared most times.

Chapman should not be the mop up man in that 15-7 massacre. In the other two 4-1 losses, Chapman could have pitched the 9th inning in one of the games. If he was rusty because he didn't pitch for 5 days, he could have been summoned to start warming up in the pen when Betances came in in the 8th inning.

Neither do you. He brought in Chasen Shreve to bail him out.

Heh, yeah, the guy who had the worst relief outing of the entire year for NY in his previous game should have come in to try to save the game, good call.

Also, Chapman did get out of it, his infield just couldn't make the play.

Did it for TV ratings obviously.

There's clearly something wrong with him physically. Sure he says he has knee pain, but they keep painting a rose picture how he can fight through it. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with a guy grimacing through pain to make it through super high leverage situations. His numbers vs the Red Sox are awful enough without knee tendinitis.

Once again, Chappy labored through a 28-pitch, 2-run lead saved situation by giving up a walk, a hit-batsman and striking out the final batter on a 3-2 count and all 3 baserunners running where a double would have emptied the bases.

If tomorrow’s game is close and with Britton and Chapman not available to be brought in in a save situation, who will Boone summon?

I am not going to read much into today's outing for Chappy - it was absolutely pouring out and I have no doubt gripping the ball was an issue.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

More likely he goes to Robertson. More "Closer" experience.
