Re: 2018 Domingo Germán Performance Thread

I still like him and wish we kept him in AAA as SP. It was one game. Gray had trouble with his curve and Germán had trouble with his slurve (curve or slider if you want) in their last starts. These are big pitches for these guys to offset their fastball. I think CP mentioned control and was right.

We need two starters. He needs to go back to AAA.

    HR problem too real.

can't afford to lose focus like he did tonight. Someone gotta give him an earful tonight.

Yelling at him isn't going to help.

He needs to be in AAA. Cashman needs to actually do something about this rotation.

You have 2 guys with an ERA+ 5, and Tanaka very close to it.

Has to be one of the best at going from great to mush in less than an inning.

Has to be a focus thing, although his velocity was weirdly fluctuating throughout the game.

Re: 2018 Domingo Germán Performance Thread

I think this young man should be pitching out of the bullpen in September. He can totally focus for an inning every couple of days, and work on command & that nasty changeup he throws.

On a side note, the Yanks have done a nice job promoting German and Loaisiga this season, and I would think other ML teams recognize these two pitchers have some value - just in time for trading season.

I'm a believer in Germán. He has shown more than enough for the Yankees to have a little patience and let him mature as a pitcher. Obviously it would be nice if he had the luxury of doing that in the minors. But I'd rather have him in the rotation than Sonny Gray.

Totally agree. The Yankees clearly need to trade for a starter, but that starter would displace either German or Gray, and I say I'd rather suffer the lumps and bumps with a young talent who might amount to something. Rather than a veteran who needs to wear a special jersey with a big yellow streak running down the back.

You say focus, I say fatigue. Or maybe neither - it was incredibly humid in the Bronx last night. Newcomb said he was having trouble gripping the ball and we saw him struggle, along with the Brave's relievers, and our own Adam Warren. Everyone was sweating buckets.

I'm not trying to make excuses for him - but to me, saying he lost focus is like saying he didn't care enough about winning. I don't want to jump to that conclusion, even though Michael Kay had no problem doing so.

I wasn't able to watch every pitch last night, following some of it on GameDay, but I completely agree that the weather last night was brutal and may have played a role. Sweat was pouring off the Atlanta pitcher's hat, it was insane.

In his first few starts, Germán was struggling in the first inning and then would bear down impressively. I don't believe he has a problem losing focus -- if anything, he was showing an ability to focus and bounce back from early mistakes.

In short I like this kid's makeup a lot and I think he's only going to get better.

Same here. I do think he needs more work though.

I agree. He is struggling right now, but it is obvious his stuff plays up in the Majors. The weather conditions might have just worn him down last night.

Averages throwing his changeup 18.3 %, but only threw it 7% today.

Probably for the best. That pitch gets killed.

Props to German for the six strong innings. Maby its just me. But after Germans last start Rothschild lit him up in front of everyone when the inning ended. Then German responds today. German has heart...

Sensitive Sonny the one who has to have a personal catcher they don't say a word to him in anger, ever. And he deserves it a lot more. Just except make excuses for him. Gray needs to see the Cowardly Lion and go off to see the Wizard...

It was especially nice to see Germán work out of the bases-loaded jam today. Every pitcher is going to get into trouble sometimes. The good ones figure out a way to get out of it.

I just hope he develops consistency. He's one of those guys I can see being a great pitcher that takes a long time to put it all together, if ever at all.

I will admit,I thought the game was going to get away from him in that 4th inning. But he managed to work his way out of it and went on to have a very nice outing. Props to the young man.

Not to be a wet blanket, but you have temper your optimism because that putrid lineup's leading OPS was 820 (Teoscar) and had only 1 other over 800(Smoak 806). 1 more (Solarte) in 750-790 range. 2 (Grichuk Morales)around 725 and 4 (Pilaar Guriel Martin Travis)around 650.

Dude has garbo command. Shouldn't be on a rotation for a WS contender at this point -- but I get the feeling he'll ride this out.
