I absolutely love his stuff overall.
The Indians aren't exactly a bottom feeder offensively.

OK, why does Sir Didi think Germán is (or is like) ... an ant?

I feel like the praise in this thread is a little understated given that German just pitched a no-hitter through 6, with 9 Ks, on his first major league start against the formidable Cleveland Indians

I thought of your post. (I think) Even Coney, who knows a lot more than us, didn't know if it's a slider or curve but I know we all like it. PitchFX still says curve but I really don't know. By the numbers: his best pitch was the changeup (and curve) and Boone did a super job taking him out. He only threw 2 FB (still 95) that last inning.

I am excited about Germán since ST but Monty is a lefty and Sheffield lost in SWB start. I like having 2 lefties in our rotation. Still want him in SWB but know I am only one.

    Super Performance

Only thing I got is the ant is supposed to represent ... a "Germ"?

The first time I saw him last year, I was amazed at his stuff. The guy has 3 above average pitches. The guy just needs to get more experience pitching and command them more consistently and he can be a very good pitcher.

Ever since yankees cleaned house in 2012 and got rid of nardi contreras, yankees have really started to develop and/or refine pitching. Kudos to cashman.

Actually Contreras was still a roving pitching coach until this year.

Draft guys needing TJS and let Nardi fix him was a relatively common draft strategy on this board.

I had a scary thought. Had he not been on the DL Cessa may have gotten this start today.

Love that he doesn't just flash three plus pitches, he throws them at any time regardless of count or situation. Threw some wipeout breaking balls and cambios backed up by 95 mph heaters in/out.

I was looking at this last night, but he has the 2nd highest spin rate of any pitcher on his changeup.

High spin rates on changeups and 2 seamers aren't necessarily a good thing but there ya go. Eye test. His changeup looks pretty silly to me and has late breaking run.

Huh? Didi is 6'2 or 6'3. German is basically the same height... Sonny is 5'10.

Re: 2018 Domingo Germán Performance Thread

Ages ago, there was an expression, "German aunt," for an older woman who was blunt, matter-of-fact and a little bossy, but that expression was fading from the language already by the time I was a teenager and that was some time ago, can't imagine how Didi would know it (not even accounting for the fact that it requires mispronouncing Domingo's last name).

Quite the mystery he has spun lol.

Maybe because he looks like an ant.

Well, Domingo sounds sort of like hormiga (or-MEE-ga), Spanish for ant.

I meant got rid of him from being the minor league pitching coordinator. He pretty much handled young pitching development prior to getting sacked in that position in 2012

I feel like thats a nice way of saying "thanks for loyalty, here's a job so u dont starve." Like the all important "advisor to gm" role.

According to YES, only Yankee to strike out more men in his first major league start was Dan Tipple, who struck out 10 Cleveland Indians on Sept. 26, 1915. Sadly Dan made only one more start in his career.

Thanks. The changeup was sweet, I think he threw more changeups than any other pitch. If you want to have fun - the curve was even higher at 2573. (Just for comps, remember Morton, and NOT to think of doctoring the ball ****don't even want to go there but we all watched that game**** - his spin rate curve is 2908 and his slider is 2819 rates)

    Nice to see
