He should’ve told him to S-T-F-U, then look back at the ump and say “just a second, sir.” Exhale, and then step into the box.

But yeah, him hitting a ball somewhere into next week worked as well.

With Gary Kraken Sanchino, the "Price" is always right.

On the Betances pitch, he was actually lifting OUT of his crouch, away from the ball.

Yeah, that wasn't lost on me. Oof.

Also, not lost on me is the fact both those pitches were scored as wild pitches.

The Dellin pitch was 100% a wild pitch. Sanchez has done a fantastic job behind the plate this series.

Thankfully that was one storyline that didn't play out.

put a weight clause in his contract, have him work on defensive drills all summer... rinse and repeat

Oh please. It was only a wild pitch because Sanchez didn't even try to stop it. Sorta like the changeup Sanchez didn't bother catching (mid yawn, maybe?)

Really bad catchers tend to lead the league in wild pitches, btw...

A catcher that can't catch. Great.

It was a 100mph fasteball that was spiked off the plate.

He had the same approach the entire season and never deviated from it. Very strange.

Gary is the guy I worry about most.

He must continue to improve behind the plate. And when he’s struggling offensively, he’s got to be mentally tougher to silo it and manage to do his job defensively.

He really needs to have a solid April in 2019. I know he has started slow bothnyears, but his confidence needs it.

Yeah, I agree with the others and don't think you're being fair to Sanchez.

Wouldn't mind if Gary was shopped in a package for an elite starter. Pick up a defensive catcher somewhere on the market as a replacement.

Who do you see being out there to replace him?

Honestly, I would see if the Marlins would do a Realmuto for Sanchez deal - Gary has two more years of control over J.T., so I would think he would be attractive to Miami with their model.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

Sanchez certainly has issues back there, but the pitch you're talking about her was 100% a wild pitch.

His bat came alive? He was 3 for 15 with 5 Ks. Running in to a couple pitches hardly qualifies as coming alive. This is where the team offensive philosophy is flawed. Yeah, he just missed that pitch...but what if he had shortened up his swing and focused more on putting the ball in play hard somewhere? A single ties the game there.

Yasmani Grandal is a v. solid defensive catcher, just about to turn 30, and is a switch-hitter with excellent LH power. He is a free agent. He'll get a 3-4 year deal somewhere. Would he make sense for the Yankees?
As exciting a bat as Sanchez has, his defense isn't good. That he can be good defensively is obvious, but that talent just hasn't been there on a regular basis. I don't see the Yankees trading Sanchez, especially now after his crappy season. And Realmuto, because of his all-around game, is worth much more than Sanchez in trade. If Sanchez were to live up to his potential, he'd be the best in the game. But what are the chances of that?

Re: 2018 Gary Sánchez Performance Thread

I believe Gary will have a good offseason by keeping his weight down and continuing to improve on his feet work behind the plate. He already is a very good pitch framer. His hitting was better in the playoffs and I doubt he will repeat his .180 BA.
