LOL at him being a very good #3. He was a passing #3.
5.9 innings per start with a 3.72 ERA isn't very good numbers for a #3? What do you expect from a #3?

His FIP was 4.87 and his K:BB was off a bit for a legit WS contending team (let's ignore his 1.5 hr/9).

Come on man. Gray is a winning team's answer to the bottom of a rotation.

He had a 2.67 FIP coming into today's game. Just saying.

The Yankees have not acquired a starting pitcher in a midseason trade who then won a postseason game for them since Cone defeated Seattle in the first game of the 1995 ALDS.

If they continue to play the way they are now then they don't need to trade for such a pitcher come June/July and possibly overpay doing so.

Iím okay with this for now. Why not see how your assets will fare before buying new stuff?

For awhile, i felt that cashís biggest weakness was development. Sure, we had to import a lot of talents via trades so we didnt exactly develop them, but they didnt get royally screwed up and some arguably improved.

I want to see how our players develop going forward. Thereís always time and money to address issues later.

As much as I've been advocating getting another starter (since November) I'm in agreement here. I do think, however, that a big trade before the deadline is necessary and inevitable.

If Chance Adams doesn't get an opportunity to start after losing the #5 starter, then I'd have to think the Yanks don't have too much faith in Adams.

Perhaps best case scenario is for Adams to have a few very good appearances and become part of a trade package.

Adams currently has a 5.11 ERA in AAA.

I was going to point that out, Adams has not earned a shot here yet.. I still think they ought to convert him to a reliever.. If anyone is going to get a shot on a semi-regular basis (and I am talking about options besides German, who is starting Sunday) then it should be Sheffield.
I used to think I was crazy... Now I am sure of it..

Adams is working himself back from elbow surgery for bone chips removal.

This isn't a major surgery, nor a legitimate reason for him struggling.

I'm assuming he stated it wasn't major because it was nothing structural but that may be unfair.

Removing bone chips can have long-lasting effects. It's not flexor or TJ but it can absolutely hamper a pitcher for an extended period.

How many bone chips are considered serious?

You are the one that's asserting the quantity of bone chips makes a difference.

When someone brought up the bone chips as a reason for struggle. Adams said, “I didn’t really think about it.”

It was serious enough that it stopped or at least delayed, his off-season throwing program, and he was behind all the others during ST. I believe these items were pointed out by many posters on these boards.
