Stop overvaluing prospects everybody. That includes me.
Samesies. Called for Cole when he was blatantly available and thought it was a huge missed opportunity at the time. Needed an elite talent in the rotation much more than an elite hitter.

With his three innings last night, he is not an option for the Saturday start that is still listed as TBD on the Yankee site.

I believe Cessa has been announced, but I don't have time to go through the plethora of Yankee tweets to see if I can find it.

Cessa will take the hill against Detroit on Saturday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Cessa was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this past weekend and pitched an inning of relief against the Red Sox on Tuesday. With CC Sabathia (hip) on the 10-day disabled list, the Yankees will need him to make a spot start against Detroit, after which he will likely be sent back down to the minors for a fresh bullpen arm. Cessa has started 14 games for the Yankees since 2016 and has logged a career ERA of 4.40 with a 1.21 WHIP over 108.1 innings.

Why does it feel like his WHIP has been much higher than 1.21? Is it because the 1 usually left the yard?

CC should be back for the next start Friday, the 20th against the Blue Jays.
I've read that CC threw 57 pitch bullpen session on Thursday and is scheduled for another bullpen tomorrow. If he's alright after that bullpen he's line up to start next Tuesday.

Seriously. If there was an xWHIP for his career it'd probably be more like 1.41

Re: 2018 Brian Cashman Performance Thread

Yeah they should have tried to give German a go, Cessa will go 4 or 5 max and let up 3 or more runs

  9. #59

Re: 2018 Brian Cashman Performance Thread

Or they had a pretty good idea at least one game this weekend would be rained out, and they could go back to CC on Tuesday and not use either to start, so they should try to get German some innings while they could.

Re: 2018 Brian Cashman Performance Thread

Posted this elsewhere on the web, but it seems relevant here also:

    =================

There has been much written about Cashman's 2016 trading deadline selloff, and the big moves were Chapman (Gleyber, McKinney, Warren) and Miller (Frazier, Sheffield, Heller) but the Beltran rental to TEX is looking like an increasingly impressive move also. In exchange for 2 months of a 39 year old DH, Cashman got back three pitching prospects:

Dillon Tate, the lead prospect and the #4 overall pick in the 2015 draft who TEX gave up on really quickly. He seems to be back on track now, 10 3 1 1 0 9 in two starts so far, and he was dominating today through 4 when he had to come out after a lengthy rain delay. He should hit top 100 lists again soon if he keeps it up.

Erik Swanson, also in the AA rotation now, his two starts combined have been 8.2 5 1 0 3 11.

    Nick Green, in the high A rotation, he's had one start, 5 1 1 0 2 6.

So the three combined have given up just 9 hits in 23.2 innings and 1 earned run, 26/5 K/BB ratio. That seems like a good trade to me.

The Beltran - Tate trade was kind of panned here at that time but I liked it. He is the pitching prospect I am currently most excited about.

I give him a B so far. Would be an A if he focused more on pitching during the offseason. Maybe he'll do that midseason.

What purpose does Chasen Shreve serve on this roster? This spot should have been upgraded in the offseason.

Re: 2018 Brian Cashman Performance Thread

When factoring in the crazy turn the market took, in the early going this deal is looking like an even more dominant trade than even the most optimistic amongst us thought it had the chance to be.

    https://nypost.com/2018/04/16/these-...en-huge-busts/

But for the Yankees, it possibly could be worse — they could still have Chase Headley. With the Padres, Headley had opened the season with one hit in 26 at-bats and 13 strikeouts. The hot-hitting rookie Christian Villanueva (five homers) already has taken third base from Headley.

To get rid of the $13 million Headley was owed in 2018, the Yankees paired him with Bryan Mitchell in an offseason trade to San Diego for non-prospect Jabari Blash. Mitchell’s inability to throw strikes followed him west — he has 14 walks against three strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings over three starts (5.27 ERA).

Yeah. OK. Cessa is bad. How about Jonathan Holder? Let's call him up.

A lot of people want to bash him for the Gray trade, but he was actually solid last year in the regular season. 3.72 ERA, averaged 5.9 innings per start. It's definitely not #1/2 starter stats, but certainly decent and a very good #3 type of pitcher.

Now, this year is completely different. He's lucky to even get to the 5th inning so far.

He wasn't a plus. He just wasn't a dumpster fire.

LOL at him being a very good #3. He was a passing #3.
