I heard about half that price. I'd pay a $10 premium per ticket for that.

It's not half in NYC construction costs. Evidently, the beancounters advised the Yankee ownership it would take too many years to break even at those roof costs. Also, you might pay that premium costs, but I think you're in the minority of Yankee fans.

A roof saves 2 or 3 rainouts a year. Those games usually get made up on day/night doubleheaders or a makeup date where you'll still get half the crowd to show up. I'd say each rainout costs them about 500K to a million tops at lost revenue. Would probably take 30-40 years to break even if they spent on a roof. That counts for most teams in the northeast.

Rainouts are the small problem. It's the delays, cold etc. that are so annoying. How many horrible weather days have they had just this year so far that would have warranted closing the roof? I'd say at least 10.

I would love to have Yankee Stadium with a retractable roof. I would like to have a retractable roof for every team in which bad weather is a major factor during the course of a normal baseball season weather-wise. That said, unless they can break even on their ROI in a reasonable amount of time, most teams in cities with construction costs that are astronomical are not going to spend the necessary investment to do so, especially those teams that have to borrow most of their monies to build the stadium in the first place as the interest rate costs alone will become a major factor.

Yes, but the fans in the ballpark are most likely spending money during the delays at the concession stands and team stores. More delays equals more time for the paying customer to spend.

I'll be surprise if they play both games today and tomorrow. They might end up playing Thursday, but the forecast for that day is not good either.

I made the trek down to DC yesterday from Philly for the game, disappointed they couldn't get it all in, but a good game for 6 innings nonetheless...

what a waste of a series. Time for retractable roofs. The profit margins can withstand the cost. DO IT or you get no public funding.

Yankees need to stop playing games in cities whose last initial is "C."

So, maybe they should play where the "New York" Giants and "New York" Jets play!

The box of straws goes flying through the air as -tz desperately attempts to clutch even one.

Yet, all the straws escape her grasp and fall to the ground. Sadness sets in.

What I heard on the radio just now was "Could be a shower around" both Sunday and Monday (not Saturday).

No guarantees, of course. Have fun, StanTheMan!

Addendum, now they're saying maybe it starts late Saturday or Saturday night. Doesn't sound like any steady rain, though.

It would figure the one time they play a Saturday night home game the rain starts in the evening.
