This would also include throwing your glove at a ball to try to knock it down...

I've seen internet citations of this being Rule 7.05(b), but strangely, when I look at the 2018 rules posted at MLB.com, there is no Rule 7.05(b). So who knows.
    It's now Rule 5.06(b)(4), section E:

    Rule 5.06(b)(3) to 5.06(b)(4)
    (4) Each runner including the batter-runner may, without liability
to be put out, advance [if]:
    [....]
    (E) A fielder deliberately touches a pitched ball with
his cap, mask or any part of his uniform detached
from its proper place on his person. The ball is in
play, and the award is made from the position of
the runner at the time the ball was touched.

These are worse than the "Resource Description and Access" Rules for cataloging!

Re: Around The Rest Of The League - Game Action

I went to see the Royals host the Tigers. The Royals won 4-2 to win a series for the first time this year. Mike Moustakas became the second player since 1908 to have at least 1 double, at least 1 sacrifice fly, at least 3 RBI, and ground into at least 2 double plays. Whit Merrifield stole three bases in the first three innings. In the third inning, he stole unoccupied third without out there being a pitch. Then Jorge Soler stole unoccupied second before the next pitch, but there was time in between, so it wasn't a double steal. In the first inning, Merrifield doubled on a ball that would have been a single for many runners, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly that wouldn't have scored many runners.

I saw Detroit's Grayson Greiner single in his first MLB plate appearance. Detroit had 2 runs from 10 hits.

This day last year, the Yankees won at the Cubs and it ended at 2:14 A.M. Eastern.

Tonight the Cubs won 14-2 hosting Miami. Miami's Jarlin Garcia and Tyler Cloyd became the 26th group of at least two teammates to allow at least 7 earned runs, at least 6 hits, at least 2 walks, and at least 1 home run. There was one group of three teammates who did that. On April 7, 2018, Miami teammates Dillon Peters and Jacob Turner allowed that. I posted about something else in that game, which Philadelphia won 20-1. Miami became the first team since 1908 (probably ever) to have teammates do that twice in one year.

I didn't read that post until now. I don't have a way of finding comebacks or things that happened in a particular inning.

Yesterday Chris Sale had 15 strikeouts without a walk while pitching 9 innings of a 5-3 walkoff loss at Toronto in 12 innings. It was the first time a pitcher had at least 15 strikeouts without a walk while pitching 9 innings that was not a complete game because the game went extra innings and that his team lost. Sale has 9 starts, including 7 quality starts and none with more than 3 runs allowed, and Boston is second to us in runs, but Sale has only 3 wins. His 2.17 ERA is exactly the same as it was in 2014 when he had only 12 wins out of 26 starts. He has the highest strikeouts per 9 innings and strikeout-to-walk ratio of any pitcher in MLB history with at least 1,000 innings. In his career, he has a 2.98 ERA as a starter and has won 47.6% of his starts.

Cincinnati's winning pitcher was Austin Brice, who got his first career win, and he's the first MLB player born in Hong Kong.

Today at Baltimore, Tampa Bay's Andrew Kittredge became the second reliever since 1908 to pitch 0 innings while allowing at least 6 runs, at least 6 hits, at least 1 home run, and at least 1 walk. The first pitcher to do that was the New York Mets' Chasen Bradford on August 29, 2017 at Cincinnati, but I did not notice the Rare Event then. Baltimore won 17-1. Four Tampa Bay pitchers had more runs allowed and more hits allowed than innings.

In their 5-0 loss at Boston, Baltimore became the sixth team since 1908 to have at least 13 hits in a game with 9 or fewer innings, not score, and allow at least 5 runs. Baltimore left 14 on base.
