The Mets won 14-2 at San Diego. The Mets became the fourth team since 1908 to have at least 14 runs, at least 19 hits, at least 7 walks, at least 3 home runs, and at least 4 stolen bases.

And how many teams have scored at least 12 runs after having 12 runs scored against them in the previous game?

    I'm genuinely curious.

There's no quick way of finding that out. I could find all instances of at least 12 runs being scored and look for teams that did that and allowed that close together, but I'm not spending the time doing that for every game since 1908. You can narrow a search to be done by Team X or done against Team X, but you can't search for something done by or against Team X. I could find all instances of at least 12 runs being scored by a team and allowed by that team to look for times close together, but I'm not spending the time doing that for every team. There are some things that I would do if I got paid.

Tonight at the Mets, Atlanta became the third team since 1908 to win a game in which they scored at least 3 runs and had at least 5 times as many hits as runs in 9 or fewer innings. Atlanta had 15 hits and won 3-2. The previous two times it happened were both done by Philadelphia. Michael Soroka won in his MLB debut.

Sale has a 2.14 ERA but only 2 wins from 7 starts. Boston came back from down 2-0 to go up 3-2, but Alex Gordon homered in the ninth to give Kimbrel his first blown save. Sale allowed 2 runs of which 1 was earned. Kansas City scored a run without a hit by reaching on a fielding error by Devers, advancing on a hit by pitch, advancing on a walk, and scoring on a sac fly.

Miami's Yadiel Rivera had his 15th career hit be a pinch-hit walkoff.

I don't know how many times it has happened since then, but it happened in a Subway Series with the Mets winning 12-2 on June 9, 2000 and the Yankees winning 13-5 on June 10.

Cleveland was down 6-0. When they were down to their final out down 6-2, Michael Brantley hit a grand slam. Texas hit back-to-back home runs off former Yankee Nick Goody in the top of the 12th and won 8-6.

Quietly, Pomeranz is having a crappier year than Sonny.

Edit: As soon as I type this, he starts shutting them down.

David Price allowed 9 runs of which 7 were earned. It's the first time in his career that he allowed at least 9 runs and at least 7 earned runs. That includes 3 runners inherited by Hector Velazquez, who gave up the equivalent of a grand slam. He allowed a run on a wild pitch followed by a 3 run home run. Hits are equal, but Texas leads 10-3.

So glad the Yankees didn’t go after him.

Reliever in. Pitch count got him. Dodgers aren't going to mess around with an arm like that.

Someone needs to investigate the Astros pitchers. Everyone on their staff (except Keuchel) has seemingly turned into 1968 Bob Gibson and 1985 Dwight Gooden overnight.

?? Why is this a rule but using a glove/mitt is ok? What's the difference?

Also, does this mean that one isn't allowed to catch the ball with one's cap?

It does. I believe any intentional contact with the ball using "detached equipment," including a cap, means it's a triple, any runner already on is awarded three bases (meaning they score automatically) and the ball is "live" -- so if the ball gets away from the offending outfielder, the batter-runner has the option to try for a home run.

This would also include throwing your glove at a ball to try to knock it down...

I've seen internet citations of this being Rule 7.05(b), but strangely, when I look at the 2018 rules posted at MLB.com, there is no Rule 7.05(b). So who knows.
