The eternal state of optimism that the Yankees will win it all

    Re: 2018 Regular Season Thread

IMO, our best defensive lineup right now would be Gardy LF, Judge CF & Stanton RF.

Stanton just does not look comfortable in LF, whereas Judge has said he is fine in CF.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

    This...
BTW, I do not think that Judge is all that great in RF. He should have caught a ball near the track vs Tampa the other night. He has a very good arm but I don't think he has great hands, especially when he has to go back on a ball. JMO...

Defensive stats said he was really good last year. Hard to go off of a couple of anecdotal memories you have vs a season's worth of data. In the end, if you don't think he's good going back on balls in RF, not sure why you'd want him in CF.

I don't think anyone has a problem with them if they're played at the proper frequency. They get killed because Joe played them too often

It's funny how a fan sitting at home knows when a player is being rested too often over the manager that has intimate knowledge of a player's ability to play that day.

Stanton DH, Harper in LF, Judge in RF. Hicks/Ella/Gardy in CF.

    They obviously rotate as necessary.

Pass on Machado, and sign Harper. He's a generational talent and would provide the lefty power that we keep expecting from Bird. Worry about how to get all of the star outfielders on the field in the World Series, once we reach there.

This plus Sanchez, Castro, snd Didi, spent significant time on the DL last year, Joe had to play them more than he wanted. But why let facts get in the way of a narrative.

If Harper is signed they aren't picking up Gardy's option and may trade Hicks.

They still need Hicks until Florial is ready, Harper would just replace Gardner.

Harper's potential signing has absolutely nothing to do with whether Gardner's option is picked up.

Gardner's option being picked up rests on precisely one thing: if he's expected to out-produce his 12.5MM salary. That's it. You grab excess value, and then worry about what to do with it when you have to cross that bridge. Need to trade him? You can, because if you've picked up the option he's a good value. Absolutely astounding the number of people who don't understand this.

    He'll be a 10/5 guy by season's end.

Fair point. But look at what's happened to Ellsbury, Frazier, and Hicks one week into the season, turning our logjam into a dearth. The smart money says you should still get an above-average OF for below-market cost.

5-5.... unless they get snowed out again (which might be a good thing right now).

What a depressing outlook. Who are they facing, the Astros pitching?

Not hopeless, but, I'm pretty underwhelmed so far.
What we can appreciate now is that the Yankees from 1996-2003 were even more extraordinary than we thought.

Really? I'm the opposite. I'm really excited about how our rotation has performed so far, since that was the biggest question mark for me. The bullpen has been horrendous, but they will straighten out, and Sanchez/Stanton will get hot.

Sucks that Cashner shut us down tonight though.

Give Cashner some credit. He pitched a great game. The offense will be fine. Iím mostly annoyed by how disappointing our bullpen has been.

I just hope the starters and bullpen find an "equilibrium" rather than one is great and the other is terrible. Both have talent, they just need to get rolling together.

Yeah! He needs to take his 151 wRC+ and get out of the big leagues!
