Kinda bizarre. He has a many stolen bases this year as he did the last 2 years (10). He also has 6 caught stealing this year and has had 7 total all the years prior...

Me too. But I find it very interesting that he suddenly found the time for capitalization and punctuation. Very interesting indeed.

That said, the article is very insightful.

The article says in great detail what we all have been talking about since the end of May. Makes you want to force Didi, Boone and Thames into a room and talk about this for 3 hours.
    Let the kids play.

Didi = Higashioka in the clutch.

    High leverage 24 wRC+

    Men on base 68 wRC+

Pop up to SS on the first pitch. I guess that was the pitch he was waiting for.

Last year was anomaly. Thanks for sharing though.

Bottom line, these stats change year to year because the sample is so small.

The dude singlehandedly beat Kluber in game 5 of the ALDS, that gives him at least a one year pass from non-clutch accusations.

Lets not forget the WC game homer too.

Yeah, good point. Plus he carried us this April, the AL Player of the Month.

Exactly. Small slices of data arenít meaningful. The more complex a stat is, the more error it has built in, and the larger the sample has to overcome the noise.

Re: 2018 Didi Gregorius Performance Thread

it bears watching whether didi's clutch ability persists when he's pitched to correctly. everything off the outside edge is a viable strategy if he keeps trying to put those pitches into play. it saps his power greatly.

  17. #367

Re: 2018 Didi Gregorius Performance Thread

didi basically needs to stay off of the outside pitch, and also pull everything. even if the pitch is outside he does more damage trying to pull it than hitting it into play oppo.

Not a 3rd place hitter. What is it going to take?

Yeah, at first I was going to say that Bird would be the alternative except he's not any better. But there are other ways to get Didi out of the three spot, including moving Hicks and/or Torres up.

I sure hope that Didi has one more super hot streak in him. It's OK if he waits until September 15 as long as he sustains it for a month.

Hicks should take his spot. Kind of the only choice really.

Gardner needs to get moved somewhere else as well.

But gardner score 2 of our 1st 3 runs had a SB does he really have to hit 300?

you would think after 4 game sweep by Boston it might humble DiDi but after the White Sox win it continued w/ his victory " frolic " on 2nd base w/ Rookie Torres ..surprised it continues very not Yankee like & its " class-less "

WRC+ isn’t as comprehensive as they would have you believe. They built on Bill James’ Runs Created but eliminated Sac Flies. As James said, it’s not the batter’s job to get hits w/RISP, it’s to score runs. So, James included in his formula every offensive event that contributes to scoring runs. Tango didn’t when he created wOBA, which is the basis for wRC+.

Didi is 2nd in the AL in Sac Flies w/RISP. That makes him more productive than your numbers are giving him credit for. Consistent with this is the fact that Didi is top ten in the AL in productive outs.

Something else which doesn’t show up in wRC+ is GDP, which is important because it erases runners in scoring situations and often takes a team out of an inning when a runner might otherwise score on an out. Didi has grounded into only 2 DPs w/RISP, minimizing his negatives in these situations with one of the lowest totals in the league.
