Didi has aways had a lower BABIP, probably due to his subpar exit velocity, but it's going to look even lower this year because HR do not count as balls in play and he's got so many of them proportionately to his total hits.

If they wanted to save money they should have extended Didi prior to the season. The longer they wait the money expensive he will become.

To this point he is absolutely the MVP. Long ways to go.

Also, I absolutely love the bat flip/drop. Nothing wrong with a little swag every now and then.

And perhaps another lengthy DL stint for Trout could help.

I remember laughing when the Yanks got Didi to replace The Captain after 2014. Wow what a fool I was. What can you say at this point. He's so vital to this team

Re: 2018 Didi Gregorius Performance Thread

Can't say enough how good he is.

In the 3rd inning at-bat with 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, being the good contact hitter he is, he went the other way to drive in at least 1 run.

Then in the 5th inning, with Judge on 1st and with Berrios tiring, he mauls him and jumps on the first meatball changeup for the 2-run jack.

such an impressive at-bat. and he choked up!

I'd say that one of the keys to didi's success has been him turning what has always been an outstanding skill of his (the ability to make contact, typically at about 80ish%) into a foundation for better hitting. He is swinging a lot less (fallen from 58% to 46% from last year), but right now when he swings at strikes, he isn't missing... making contact at a preposterous 96.8 % in the zone (and making less contact out of the zone). As others have noted, though, that 46% swing rate is not too unusual for him, and he has shown 2-3 years of patience like that in the past with the D-Backs.

I mean, he is obviously hot right now----he simultaneously has the highest SLG in baseball (.746!) and the 4th lowest K-percentage in baseball (8.8%), lolwut---but I also think he is real deal. oh dont forget he's also GG-caliber shortstop

What the Didi-ists need to realize is had #SirDidi had 3/4 seasons of what he has done this month,
The question wouldn't be is he better than Xander & Andrelton, it's:
Is he better than Cal Ripken?

Andrelton Simmons is now at .398/.476..
    3-4, 5 rbi's tonight vs. Astros
Was tied with #SirDidi in WAR at start of the night.
    ..
Vinny, this is far from over.
    Far. From. Over.

Andrew Simmons is better than Didi according to Brian Kenn? Why does he think that and he hates Didi?

Depends on how you value his defense. They're close.

He's making it look easy right now. Just having fun out there.

Nobody thought he would stick at Derek's replacement.

Jack Curry made a nice comparison last night on the postgame: the same way Jeter always had a smile on his face, was always joking around and in a good mood - Didi's got the same demeanor.

Yanks need to extend Didi after the season: does 5yrs/$100M (with a signing bonus) get it done?

They need to extend him sooner. The longer they wait the more likely his agent will wait for Machado to set the market. He should have been extended as soon as he was arbitration eligible just like Cano was. There is no Yankee policy that this can't be done when they did it with Cano.

I'd much rather have an affordable Didi extended than a bank breaker like Machado. I just don't think the Yankees need Machado.

Re: 2018 Didi Gregorius Performance Thread

An extension this season may prevent them from making pickups at the deadline, assuming they intend on staying under the LT cap.

Let's say for example that the Yanks extend him for 5/100. Including this year's $8M salary, his contract would be 6/108, which has an AAV of $18M for LT purposes. His AAV goes from $8M up to $18M just like that. That extension would eat up $10M of a potential $13M (RAB figure) that we could spend at deadline.

I'm sure that's something very important that the Yanks are thinking about.
