Maybe Didi will accept a 5/$40M extension now?

i think that's crazy low, i wouldn't even want to offer it out of risk of insulting him. something reasonable that works for both sides. 5/60-70M?

I was half-serious. 5/70 is favorable to the Yanks IMO, but he still may go for it.

right I would sign 5/70 in an instant if I was the yankees. i don't believe the offer is insulting though, but it probably wouldn't be enough

At worst, he'd regress to what he was last year---a top-10 shortstop in the league.

Unlikely, though. Right now, even with his major slump, his wRC+ is still 13 points higher (120) than last year (107).

My only concern might be that which was implied by Pakimobzta's post.

he's definitely showing signs of coming out of it, was also robbed of a single last night. he'll be fine, they should extend him on the "cheap" if they can

Re: 2018 Didi Gregorius Performance Thread

To distract everyone from Didi's hitting woes, here's a cute story about how he and Torres developed that little dance they do when Gleyber hits a home run:

    http://www.nj.com/yankees/index.ssf/...gorius_vi.html

It seems Didi has "made it a point to create some kind of gesture with his double-play mate -- a handshake or a dance move that's unique to them, something over which they can bond." So he does it (that is, something unique) with every Yankee who plays second.

As for the dance with Torres, the process was simple. Gregorius said he told the 21-year-old to make something up and he would roll with it.

Gregorius loves to dance. "Any music I know that I can dance to, I'll dance to it," he said. "I'm not picky."

Torres? Not so much. Still, the Venezuela native listens to salsa and to American pop music, and the strut was the first thing that came to mind.

he is not showing any signs at all.. wishful thinking will not make up for the fact he might have the worst offensive stats of any player in baseball in the month of may

Now that he IS showing signs of life, I notice nobody has bumped this in a few days.

Meanwhile ... always keeping 'em loose ...

Did you notice that same "nobody" didn't say a word in the Sanchez thread after his big hit last night?

I'll give him a break on that one. Romine's nickname is Ro, and Didi probably isn't much of a lettuce fan.

This is the one I really don't get:

I'm hoping tonights 3-4 can be the start of something good. His BABIP has been abysmal in May. Hits the ball, but it seemed to be weak grounders to fielders, flyballs, or unlucky line drives. Still has only a 14% K rate, so some reasonable luck will get his batting average up to respectability. Sanchez has had even worse luck on batted balls. Some regression to the mean means big rest of the seasons for both players.
