    2018 Aaron Boone Performance Thread

    Surprised there isn't one already.

Aaron Boone won’t let front office control his lineup card

Asked before Monday night’s 4-2 loss to the Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field if he thinks he will be the guy to fill out the lineup card, Boone responded quickly and firmly.

    “I don’t think, I know,’’ Boone said.

Now Boone knows the game has changed, and he understands the data is an important part of what goes on inside an organization so he won’t ignore the information at hand.

“I talk to them all the time and I want the models and what makes the most sense, and that is part of the input for me,’’ Boone said. “But [the lineup] will always be mine.’’
“I like bunting for hits,’’ Boone said after answering, “No,’’ when asked if he liked trading an out for a base with a bunt.

Boone didn’t rule it out completely. But if he is going to put the bunt sign on, it is going to be somebody who has the ability to bunt for a hit.

“There are a handful of guys I would consider in the right situation,’’ Boone said. “In a sacrifice situation, you may see a guy lay one down and I will ask them to be aggressive with it.’’

I give the over/under on questioning his lineup decisions here at 1.5 Games.

    And I'll take the under.

Given that there was a lineup complaint in the first inning of the Feb. 23 (first ST game) Game Thread, I think you have a winning bet.

So far the ineffectual Boone has been a disaster! He is simply a PR agent doing Cashman's bidding. (Just thought I'd get that in early!)
Standings: Big Inning 32-16; Blue Cut 27-21; Shoo Fly 26-22; Husk 22-26; Frank Pierce 21-27; Iowa City 16-32.

Some fans lack the perspective that there is a major league team in the opposing dugout that is also trying to win. For those "fans" nothing short of 162-0 in the regular season and 11-0 in the post season will satisfy them. And even then they will probably find something to complain about.

Well, you can almost certainly anticipate complaints about:
    -Lineup
    -Not advancing a runner
    -Bunting a runner ahead
    -Ellsbury
    -Too many HRs
    -Not enough HRs
    -Shreve
    -Putting Stanton in Left Field
    -Overuse of the shift
    -Under use of the shift
    -Romine
    -Hitting into the shift
    -Sanchez' passed balls
    -Where is Andujar?
    -Where is Torres?

    Then, on the second week........

As long as he warms up a pitcher in the bullpen before taking out the current pitcher, I'm good with the Boonester.

I mean, he ain't Bret, so, we got that going for us.

I recall a few “at least he isn’t Torre” posts in 2009. I have a feeling this thread will be quite active this year

No doubt! I'm going to try to stay away from it starting March 29th.

Boone seems more competent than I initially envisioned when he got the job. Just from listening to him interact with the booth over the past few weeks I better understand the voodoo he put on the FO in his interview for the job.

He hasn't done or said anything that's made me think he's stupid. However, I'm waiting on the actual season to start.

...and his voice is still annoying.

Should be interesting when Girardi does the ESPN color on a Yankee-Red Sox game (Sunday night July 1)

Just wait when some fans want Boone to bunt and sacrifice an out and he refuses to play small ball with this line up.

Girardi was hired by MLB and not ESPN.
