    Bartolo Colon- SP/RP insurance?

I know he's currently in spring training with the Rangers on an invite, but what about Bartolo coming here on a cheap one-year deal if things don't work out with Texas? He'd be affordable, could eat some innings if the injuries come, and could even be a long guy out of the bullpen...all while keeping us under the spending limit for this year.

Hard pass. Dude was terrible last year. Unless he gets another dose of stem cell treatments I think heís finally done.

Give the kids a shot. Our prospects are good enough that we donít need to go after guys like Colon and Lackey that are probably done.

What? No. Even if he wasn't under contract with another team, we have probably 20 better pitchers, many of whom have options if needed.

I thought I was stretching it with suggesting John Lackey.

absolutely not. Colon is 44 tears OLD, and carries 280#'s on his 5' 8" frame.
We have 20 pitchers on our list of 30 top prospects, all of which deserve a batter chance than Colon and who would cost us far, far less.

NO. This is going from bad (Lackey) to worst (Colon). We all love the ageless wonder but no way. (didn't he hit a HR last year?)
Did you watched or listen to yesterday's game? The only adjustment I am making is German then Adams then Warren in my selection. I like Adams but I am comfortable with German as 6th.

I honestly feel good about our lineup, backup, and pen.

    German - Adams - Warren - (Cessa)

The only insurance Colon qualifies for at this point is long term care insurance.

But if we could pay him a few million to pitch for the Red Sox, that might be worth exploring.

If he were to sign with the Red Sox, there would still be people on this forum wondering why we did not get into the deal.

You guys had a good laugh when I posted this, but who's currently got a 1.64 ERA and had a perfect game into the 8th inning vs. the Astros? The man can still pitch. Better than two of the guys currently in our rotation? At this point of the season, yes!

Why in heck would we ever want a pitcher over 40? We already have Tanaka and CC who are living on borrowed time. We need pitchers we can depend upon. Look at the 30 top prospects we have in the minors. Twenty two of them are pitchers. Wouldn't you want to develop some of them to insure our future, or at least use a few of them and others to get a young (under 27) starter with a proven record?

    Re: Bartolo Colon- SP/RP insurance?

He is under contract with Texas. That makes him ineligible to pitch for NYY.
Standings: Big Inning 32-16; Blue Cut 27-21; Shoo Fly 26-22; Husk 22-26; Frank Pierce 21-27; Iowa City 16-32.

Tanaka is 29. He's actually only a year older than Sonny Gray.

I was not referring to age with Tanaka or CC I was referring to their arm (Tanaka) and Knees (CC) , both of which could be career ending at any time. We don't want to add another major uncertainty to our staff

Not he is even available but Colon is making $1.75 million on a 1 year deal. If there is any uncertainty with him you just release him for the change Hal has in his pockets.

It's got nothing to do about baseball. Why put a man who will be 45 in a month in your rotation when you have far better options available. It is vitally important to the teams future to develop some of the in house talent we have. If we want a more experienced starter, we should pay the money and use some of our farm talent and trade for an established pitcher on the right side of 26.
Why do you keep pushing for Ciolon? Is he a relative of yours? Nothing else makes any sense.

I have said my last on the subject

I'm certainly glad the yanks see the vital importance of developing Luis Cessa.
