Tonight, "almost" being the keyword. Not trying to kill him because just one at bat but boy was that a terrible AB. Brach was in a sequence where he couldn't have hit a cow in the ass with a snowshovel and Drury threw him a lifeline.

Yeah that was an ill-timed wave at a pitch about a foot out of the K zone.

Coming off the bench in the cold conditions isn't easy, some guys are guess hitters and he understandably thought that would be a strike at 2-0.

Down 3 with one man on, not sure how many runs he was going to drive in with that anticipated meatball. Brach was nowhere near the plate for like 4 straight pitches. Cold or no cold, take a strike.

Again, don't mean to overplay this. He just had a bad AB. Onward.

He looked better at second - twice while in the shift, he went far to his left in front of Wade to make the play.

lol yeah I saw that. That's what's interesting about "the shift" becoming the norm - having a couple of versatile infielders will be very valuable

Re: 2018 Brandon Drury Performance Thread

The way Andj has hit, I'm starting to miss him:

Third baseman Brandon Drury, the third regular to go on the DL (with a concussion and blurred vision), continues to wait on test results while undergoing other exams. “A lot of the tests have come back negative so far but still waiting on a number of things he is going through,’’ manager Aaron Boone said when asked if there was anything new. “Hopefully we start to get answers trickling in more so [Wednesday, Thursday] and beyond.’’

Boone said the Yankees are not only waiting on results of the tests already done, but it was his understanding there were some other tests that need to be completed.

“I think they want to see some more on things,’’ Boone said. “For the most part he has been through all of them. I haven’t talked to him in the last 24 hours. I talked to [coach] Phil [Nevin] who talked to him and he seems to be doing OK.’’

Re: 2018 Brandon Drury Performance Thread

    Good news:

Yankees 3B Brandon Drury says he's not scared of what's going on the migraine/blurred vision issue he's had. He's "excited" to finally know what's been going on. The many tests he went through on his brain and body have him energized thinking the issue may finally get fixed. When he's walked to the plate the past few years he's experienced the blurred vision "all the time." He's currently on anti-inflammatories as the results from his tests keep tricking in. He'll take some BP and a few ground balls today for the first time since going on the DL.

That's hilariously clueless/lazy reporting. I mean, you don't have to be a diehard NYY fan to know Dellin's curveball is his calling card. That's like one of us taking over as the Dodgers reporter and saying that the key to Kershaw is his changeup.

It's pretty cool/intriguing for a guy that lots of baseball people absolutely love, but who "for some reason just hasn't quite put it together the way we think he can" if this is diagnosed and treated properly.

If this is what helps him break out, I think the Yankees will be thankful he kept his mouth shut.

Re: 2018 Brandon Drury Performance Thread

Here's another update on Brandon, from another (more reliable?) source, Bryan Hoch:

It is frequently said that hitting a baseball could be the most difficult individual accomplishment in professional sports. For years, Brandon Drury has been attempting to do so with blurry vision.

Currently on the 10-day disabled list with severe migraines, Drury continues to wait for a definitive diagnosis after submitting to a battery of neurological tests one week ago, but the Yankees' infielder senses that he is making progress.

"I've played through it, but I've got to the point now where I don't feel like that's the player I am," Drury said. "It's early in the year and I want to get this figured out early so I can help this team win a lot of ballgames this year."

Drury said that a migraine specialist has placed him on anti-inflammatories. He worked out on the diamond at Yankee Stadium prior to Monday's game against the Marlins, taking ground balls at third base and a round of batting practice.

"I feel like he's in a way better place than where he was when we put him on the disabled list," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. "Hopefully he's starting to get some answers; hopefully the medication he's taking now will be part of those answers. Hopefully he responds and we can start moving forward with it. He's an important guy for us."

Acquired from the D-backs in February, Drury had five hits in 23 at-bats (.217) before being placed on the DL. He said that his migraines intensify with physical activity, and when asked if he has stepped into the batter's box without being able to see clearly, Drury replied, "All the time."

"Honestly, I'm actually excited to figure out what's going on," Drury said. "I've been dealing with this for a while and I want nothing more than to go out there and play baseball with clear vision and a clear head, and be able to go help this team win ballgames."

Re: 2018 Brandon Drury Performance Thread

This is a pretty worrisome diagnosis. It's not as if there's some surgery or pill that makes migraines go away and never come back.
