It was impressive seeing them come back like that, but in the end, still just frustration. Bad calls are part of the game, and good teams overcome them, but 2 weeks in a row we get hurt with some real rough ones. Annoying.

Didn't the Eagles also beat us last year on a kick over 60 yards?

Re: 2018 New York Giants Thread

I don't know if you guys realize this (I didn't until last night), but the field goal didn't actually end the game. I guess Fox didn't realize it either, since they didn't show it, but there was .01 left, and there was a kickoff, which was actually kicked deep, not squibbed. And we returned it. And Shepard had it off a lateral, and a) maybe had a seam, though probably didn't have the speed to break it all the way, and b) threw a lateral which missed, but if it had actually gotten cleanly to his target (not sure what that was), could possibly have been taken in. I guess I'm glad I didn't see this at the time, because getting my hopes up, then dashed again, would have been awfully frustrating.

And after all that's happened, somehow we're only 1 win off the division pace. No beast in the east this year.

Imagine all the bookies who may have paid out thinking the game was over?

A friend of mine was in a sportsbook in vegas for the Ventura "grand single". The grand slam beat the over of 7.5, and people started getting paid out. Then when it was changed, the under won instead of the over. Those few who'd already gotten paid beat a hasty retreat before someone from the casino could grab them to get the money back, while people still online at the window to get paid out were out of luck, and, as you'd imagine, went from psyched to confused to furious pretty quickly. He said it was pretty close to a riot.

Yep. 3-for-15 on pass plays when he had 2.5 seconds or more to throw the ball.

We can't just blame it on the terrible o-line anymore.

Lots to unpack after last night. The season is over, of course.

    https://twitter.com/billbarnwell/sta...81317414162437
Eli averaged 3.3 air yards per completion yesterday. Only quarterback to have two games in the bottom 15 (under 3.5 air yards/completion) so far this year. Leader in the clubhouse is Nathan Peterman at *0.4 air yards* on his five completions against the Ravens.
Eli had a Total QBR of 9.0 when he wasn’t pressured yesterday. Nine. (When he was pressured, it was 0.7.)
Deadspin is happily piling on, but I don't think they are off base at all.

    https://deadspin.com/you-cant-hide-e...ing-1829708700
Here’s a fun thing to think about: Has an offense with the quality of skill players that the New York Giants possess ever looked this bad? This is a team that lines up one of the best wide receivers in football, a rookie running back who treats defenders like bad guys in a Kung Fu movie, and a big, fast tight end who is perfectly suited for a modern NFL offense. And yet this team is scoring just 19.5 points per game, and got blown out 34-13 last night. The problem here is Eli Manning.

The degree to which Manning is holding back the rest of the Giants’ offense has become clearer with each passing week, and last night threw his flaws into the harshest light yet. He threw for 281 yards, but a huge chunk of those came on check-downs that left Saquon Barkley to do all the work. He couldn’t complete any passes that traveled more than a few yards down the field, and when his often-bad offensive line actually gave him time to throw, he couldn’t make anything happen:
    https://deadspin.com/saquon-barkley-...ter-1829711508
Last night, Barkley had 130 rushing yards on 13 attempts, and a team-high nine receptions for a team-high 99 yards. Every time he touches the ball, it feels like something incredible could happen, and he’s reached 100 yards from scrimmage in each of his first six games. Because Manning is now profoundly allergic to throwing actual forward passes, Barkley’s already caught 40 passes this year, just five fewer than Beckham. Most of those are little checkdowns, but Barkley is such a dynamic runner that he still averages a 9.3 yards per catch.

However, this year’s already a lost one, so it’s not like the Giants need to ride him the same way the Cowboys rode Ezekiel Elliott in his sensational rookie season. It would be much better for both Barkley and the organization, given this bleak season and the painfully short life-cycle of a NFL running back, if they didn’t. I just hope the Giants get their organizational ................ together in time to win some games with Barkley while he’s still at his peak.

Listening to the Kay's show. He was told by a NFL person that Eli is the reason McDaniels and Patricia didn't want to come here. And that Mara hired Gettleman cause he was in agreement with him about Eli being the QB. And almost no GM wants the Giants job.

About the second point. Many Giants fan, myself included suspected that it was pretty much a phony GM search. The red flag was 'hiring' Accorsi to do the search.

Following the process for a coach, just on the outside looking in, no way was Shurmur their number 1 choice. So I believe that info.
