    Playing With The 2018 Lineup

Here's what I'd like to see:

    Gardner - LF/CF/DH
    Hicks - CF/LF
    Judge/Stanton - RF/LF/DH
    Bird - 1B
    Stanton/Judge - RF/LF/DH
    Gregorius - SS
    Sanchez - C
    Wade/Torreyes/Torres (in May) - 2B
    Andujar - 3B

I tried to spread the lefties out throughout the lineup. Didi's in charge of the 2nd half of the lineup - he's the cheerleader for the rookies & the whole IF!

IMO Aaron Hicks should bat 2nd in the lineup for a couple of reasons: he'll see lots of fastballs with Gardner on 1st, so the short porch @ the stadium should easily be reached. Hicks turns most fastballs around with authority. As a lefty batter, he gives Gardner or Ellsbury a better chance at stealing 2nd.

The Core 4.2 (Stanton Judge Sanchez & Bird) are in the heart of a monster lineup. These four are pretty interchangeable - WOW! Do you want the over or the under on 160 HRs between these guys?

I'd like to try & take some pressure off Sanchez by hitting him a bit lower than some folks might like. I think he'll be swinging for the fences if he's directly following Stanton or Judge in the lineup. Also, a more-relaxed Sanchez might be able to better concentrate on improving his catching skills.

The bench would be Romine, Ellsbury, either Wade or Torreyes, & either Tyler Austin or Billy McKinney. There's so many other options, too. Lots of flexibility. What a potential powerhouse!

There is no way I want Sanchez batting 7th. I'm more interested in having my best hitters at the top of the lineup than alternating left and right-handed hitters.

If we define "the top of the lineup" as the first five spots, it'll be fun opining on who the best five hitters are.

Once again, my reasoning for hitting Sanchez 7th is to take some of the offensive pressure/burden/challenge away from him so he can become a better defensive catcher, which we all seem to agree is a focus point.

This staggers the righty’s and lefty’s, and puts Stanton in the 2 spot where he’s hit before.

This is my line up. I want Judge - Stanton in my lineup 2 and 3 (or 3 and 4).

Yeah, this is right except obviously Torres is actually at 2B, so Wade will hit 9th for April.

Re: Playing With The 2018 Lineup

    Gardner (L) 4.23 P/A in 2017 (12th in MLB)
    Judge (R) 4.41 P/A (3rd)
    Stanton (R)
    Sanchez (R)
    Bird (L)
    Didi (L)
    Hicks (S) - DH
    Andujar (R)
    Gleyber (R)

Ideally Bird is good enough to hit between Santon and Sanchez, so I would move him up if he's hitting well. Also, I would imagine that either Andujar or Gleyber jump in front of Hicks by season's end, possibly both.

Five years from now we will look back and see what a sick lineup this
is with Andujar and Torres hitting in the 8 and 9 spots.

    Hicks, CF
    Sanchez, C
    Stanton, LF
    Bird, 1B

Re: Playing With The 2018 Lineup

    Vs RH Starter:
    Gardner- LF
    Judge- RF/DH
    Stanton- DH/RF
    Sanchez- C
    Bird- 1B
    Hicks- CF
    Gregorius- SS
    Andujar- 3B
Wade- 2B (Torres starts in AAA)

    Vs LH Starter
    Hicks- CF
    Judge- LF
    Stanton- RF
    Sanchez- C
    Bird- 1B
    Austin- DH
    Gregorius- SS
    Andujar- 3B
    Torreyes- 2B

Start Gardner against lefties if he has good numbers against that starter otherwise his splits are bad against LHP and Gardner is a guy you want fresh at the end of the season. Tyler Austin gets the first crack at those ABs, but Frazier could be an option later in the year.

Oh and there's not much of a need to split up the righties. Teams will bring in their best relievers to face the heart of our order especially since a right-handed specialist is just a really good reliever and left-handed specialists are also becoming a thing of the past. Stack your best hitters and end the game early. Splitting the lefties though may have more of an impact which is why you consider putting Hicks in between Bird and Didi as Hicks is historically better as a right-handed hitter and he gets on base more than Didi.

I think the only batters I would put in between Judge and Stanton are Trout and Votto.

Between Stanton Bird Judge and Sanchez you can't go wrong in the lineup, no matter where you bat them. A case can be made for any combination of them. My suggestion though is to put Bird between any 2 of the 3 righties.

Re: Playing With The 2018 Lineup

Hopefully Torres is so good Hell take the 2 Spot.

    Bat Judge 3rd. Bird 4th. Stanton 5th. Sanchez 6th

Although in this scenario with Torres taking over the 2nd spot I would not mind seeing Stanton, Sanchez, Bird.

Not as concerned with lefties vs righties with these guys, They all hit righties
