I've read most of his stuff, or at least a significant portion.

I find him decidedly above average in a genre that doesn't really have many options. Full disclosure: I actually haven't read as much of him as I thought, and was combining him into the same person as Christopher Buckley, who I've read more of. Have you ever read Buckley? There's good reason I confuse the two, because along with both being named Christopher, they have a similar vibe. Also because I am, as always, a dope.

Was it Moore or Buckley who wrote, "Was this the face that launched a thousand ships/And burnt the topless towers of Ilium?"

    I think that was Matt.

(I might be the only person who gets that reference, and I'm fine with that.)

I've met Chris, and his father. Chris was in my class at college and I even dated his cousin, Lizzie Buckley. I think I've read two of his books and enjoyed them. I don't know why I haven't read more. I'll have to keep an eye out for some.

Book 1 of what may be the most entertaining fantasy trilogy I've read, The First Law, is on sale today for $2.99.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._control_us-20

Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian -- leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies.

Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

Inquisitor Glokta, cripple turned torturer, would like nothing better than to see Jezal come home in a box. But then Glokta hates everyone: cutting treason out of the Union one confession at a time leaves little room for friendship. His latest trail of corpses may lead him right to the rotten heart of government, if he can stay alive long enough to follow it.

Enter the wizard, Bayaz. A bald old man with a terrible temper and a pathetic assistant, he could be the First of the Magi, he could be a spectacular fraud, but whatever he is, he's about to make the lives of Logen, Jezal, and Glokta a whole lot more difficult.

Murderous conspiracies rise to the surface, old scores are ready to be settled, and the line between hero and villain is sharp enough to draw blood.

Unpredictable, compelling, wickedly funny, and packed with unforgettable characters, The Blade Itself is noir fantasy with a real cutting edge.

My second favorite series of all time, just behind A Song of Ice and Fire.

Have you read the other books Abercrombie has written in that universe? All outstanding.

I read Red Country and The Heroes. I liked Red Country and found the Heroes a little tedious but still well written.

I hear he's writing another trilogy in the same world that will come out next year.
