Holy crap! I just finished watching Germany win. This is such a huge moment for Germany hockey. Canada deserved to lose for Brule's awful headshot that lead to a misconduct after his team fell behind 4-1. Serves them right to lose.

We've seen surprises in this century in men's Olympic ice hockey like Belarus' top four finish in Salt Lake City 2002, Slovakia's top four finish in Vancouver 2010, but I think Germany's run to a top two finish in Pyeongchang 2018 tops them all.

A shout out to former San Jose Sharks players Marco Sturm who is now the head coach, Christian Ehrhoff who is the captain and Marcel Goc where the Germans will get their first medal since Innsbruck 1976 when they won bronze.

Kyle McLaren's elbow on Richard Zednik is more illegal.

2018 Winter Olympics - Men's Ice Hockey Tournament

    Playoff Round

Semifinals Final Scores: Friday February 23, 2018

    From IIHF.com and Pyeongchang2018.com

Belarus in Salt Lake City 2002. Slovakia in Vancouver 2010. Those two teams had dream runs in men's Olympic ice hockey that led them to a top four finish in this century.

But this underdog story in Pyeongchang 2018 could top them all.

Germany will get their first men's Olympic ice hockey medal since winning bronze in Innsbruck 1976 after shocking two-time defending Olympic champions Canada 4-3 to book a spot in the Gold Medal Game.

Patrick Hager and Matthias Plachta both led the way for Marco Sturm's men with a goal and assist each.

Hager leads Germany with six points in the tournament.

Maxim Noreau tacked on two assists to take his tournament points tally to seven.

Gilbert got Canada on the board after trailing 3-0 on the power play, but was ejected in the second period after an illegal elbow to the head and neck area of David Wolf at center ice.

Mat Robinson and Derek Roy pulled Canada to within one, 4-3 with 10:18 left, but Germany hanged on for the victory.

    Their commentators went berserk.

Germany will take the Olympic Athletes from Russia who blanked the Czech Republic 3-0.

Nikita Gusev scored his eighth point of the tournament with his goal at 7:47 of the second period to give OAR a 1-0 lead.

Vladislav Gavrikov made 2-0 27 seconds later.

And Ilya Kovalchuk sealed the win with an empty netter.

Vasily Koshechkin posted his second shutout of the tournament with 31 saves.
