Norway is also tied with the Netherlands for the second most gold medals with six, three behind Germany who have nine.

The Netherlands are also tied with Canada for the third most medals with 13.

The United States were shutout on Day 7 and have company in the eight medal mark with Austria and the Olympic Athletes from Russia who have the most medals without a gold medal.

Hosts South Korea lead all Asian nations in gold medals with two while Japan has the most total medals with seven.

After Day 7, 23 different nations have at least one medal and 12 of them have at least one gold.

Alpine Skiing - Ladies' Super G

American Lindsey Vonn didn't reach the podium in Ladies' Super G where she finished sixth, but the biggest story was an amazing and frantic finish in this competition.

Austrian alpine skier and defending Olympic champion from Sochi 2014 Anna Veith thought she won back-to-back gold medals in this event.

But out of nowhere and despite some mistakes, Czech Republic dual threat alpine skier and snowboarder Ester Ledecka stole the gold medal from Veith's hands with a time of 1:21.11, 0.01 ahead of Veith who had to settle for silver.

Lichtenstein gets on the podium as Tina Weirather gets bronze.

Figure Skating - Men's Singles Free Skate

Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu has done it again!

Hanyu is the first figure, male or female, since German skater Katarina Witt to win back-to-back Men's Singles Olympic Gold Medals.

Hanyu is the fifth skater overall to win back-to-back in Men's Figure Skating singles and the first male since United States' Dick Button to achieve this feat when Button did it in 1948 and 1952.

Fellow Japanese teammate Shoma Uno gets silver and Spain's Javier Fernandez gets bronze.

Nathan Chen was the highest American who finished fifth despite leading the free skate at one point.

I believe so too and it seems whomever NBC hypes, a subpar performance seems to follow.

Yes. Team USA's performance after the first half is disappointing because a lot of medal forecasters predict that the United States would win 25+ medals in Pyeongchang 2018 including me when I predicted 31 medals including 10 gold, but their medal winning rate is not good after the first half.

The only bright spots in the first half were Shaun White redeeming his Sochi 2014 failure with winning gold in Men's Halfpipe Snowboarding which also gave Team USA their 100th career Winter Olympic Gold Medal.

Another bright spot was Mikaela Shiffrin winning her second career Winter Olympic Alpine Skiing gold medal.

And the third and final bright spot in the first half for Team USA was Chris Mazdzer giving the U.S. their first ever medal in men's singles' luge with a silver when German legend and two-time defending Olympic champion Germany's Felix Loch made a mistake in the finals and didn't reach the podium.

Team USA did extend their Winter Olympics streak of five or more gold medals though as Pyeongchang is the eighth straight Winter Olympics where Team USA accomplished this feat.

In order for Team USA to extend their Winter Olympics streak of 20 or more medals, they need to average 1.4 medals in the final eight days of competition.

Good luck with that since Germany is gunning for the most gold medals in a single Winter Olympics and Norway is gunning for the most total medals in a single Winter Olympics.

    Medal Count - Day 8 Saturday February 17, 2018
    https://www.pyeongchang2018.com/en/g...-standings.htm
    http://www.nbcolympics.com/medals

Pyeongchang 2018 has hit the halfway point.

Norway is the only nation to hit the 20+ medal mark as they have 22 in the first eight days of competition.

Norway is 16 medals away from having the most medals in a single Winter Olympics where the United States currently have the most when they won 37 in Vancouver 2010.

Norway also has the second most gold medals in Pyeongchang behind Germany who have nine.

Germany is also going for a record as well as they are six gold medals away from having the most gold medals in a single Winter Olympics where Canada currently have the most when they won 14 in Vancouver 2010. Germany also has 17 total medals, five behind Norway.

Canada joined the five gold medal posse thanks to Samuel Girard winning the Men's 1000m in Short-Track Speed Skating.

Canada has the third most medals with 15.

The Netherlands have the fourth most medals with 13, their second highest total after winning 24 in Sochi 2014.

There is a four-way tie for the fifth most medals with nine in the United States, Austria, Japan and the Olympic Athletes from Russia.

The OAR delegation currently have the most medals without a gold medal.

Sweden, China, France, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic and hosts South Korea round out the five total medal club.

After the first half, 25 different delegations won at least one medal and 17 of the 25 won at least one gold.
