^These greatest storms in a hundred years are becoming all to common.

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/11/us/hu...wxc/index.html

Should have built the wall on Mexico Beach.

Wow, all kidding aside the devastation is huge. Best of luck to the folks who have to try and pick up their lives down there.

You may know this but for those that still don't, not greatest storms in a hundred years but 100 year storms. Meaning they have a 1% (one in a hundred) chance of occurring in that location in that year. You can have a 100-year storm in consecutive years because the odds have not changed. Probably was not the best wording to use but I think we are stuck with it. Good explanation of the metric here: https://water.usgs.gov/edu/100yearflood.html

Here is the best idea yet to get Trump moving on climate change:

Here's an idea: Let's call climate change 'Obama warming' and watch Trump jump into action

Yeah I've read a lot about 100 year, 500 year, 1000 year storm/flood/whatever and fully understand the math. Just pointing out the some what absurd amount of 100 year events that seem to have occurred in recent years. While statistically possible, I'd be willing to bet they are statistically improbable.

Though in this case I think "Strongest Storm to hit Panhandle" in last 100 year also fits this particular storm.

Hurricane Leslie is likely to hit Portugal as a hurricane strength post-tropical storm (much like Sandy when it made landfall in NJ) tomorrow night or Sunday morning. Not unprecedented but not something that happens all that often.

Where I live apparently it's all rain, but I work in Levittown, PA and it's been snowing hard since around 11. They just announced they're letting us out at 2...hopefully once I get into NJ it will be ok, but the road I'm on looks terrible.

My office (in Princeton) is closing at 2pm as well. Luckily for me, I work from home on Thursdays. Unlucky for me is that I have to work all day since I work from home.

The Lucky far outweighs the unlucky.

    Safe drive home Ryan.

Yeah, PA is supposed to get the worst of it, from what I've seen.

It's snowing/sleeting/something pretty good in Manhattan right now. Just started in the last hour. I'm 20 stories up, though, so I don't know how bad it really is.

    Be safe out there.

Yeah. Nope. Not going to work today. It took me 7 (seven!) hours to get home last night. I work 30 miles from my house.

Yea man. It was the worst driving I've ever experienced in 3 decades of driving and I've lived up here my entire life.

Took 2+ hours for multiple 20 minute drives. Had to abandon my car in a parking lot and get picked up w/my son. So had to go back and pick up my car this morning in order to drive to my train station into city. Ridiculous.

There’s a school in W. Orange, NJ that kept their kids overnight! Preschoolers were still on buses in Yonkers at 8:30 last night.

    Disgraceful.

I mean, it's mid-November in NY/NJ and we knew a storm was coming. The way municipalities underprepared, you would think it was May.....in Miami. Paterson was and remains impassable.

Yeah. The lack of preparation for this one is baffling. It was not a surprise. Heads need to roll.

    No doubt.

There were no plows/salters on the road from 4 until 930 where I was traveling through NNJ.

The biggest culprit by far is whoever is in charge of the George Washington Bridge that with snow/sleet in the forecast did not have the span salted with plows on site

That's hard to fathom. In my neck of the woods here in CT local area towns were out salting the roads in the afternoon before the first flake ever fell.

They did the usual NJ trick of salting the heck out of the roads before the storm and then they head for the barn with no intention of doing any plowing or salting at all DURING the storm. By the time the storm hit with enough snow to actually require plows, they were all warm at home counting overtime pay.
