I also have a difficult time understanding how people get personally offended and emotional when posters question the decisions of a man they've never met and have no relationship with. Brian Cashman.

There's two types of people in this world. People who believe Cashman when he said the prices for improving on Shane Robinson were too high and people who don't.

Last night, Deivi Garcia had a season-low total of strikeouts........with 6. His last four starts, he's struck out 6, 12, 7, and 12 again.

Last night's line was 5 innings (his shortest outing since 7/17), 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk.

K/BB now up to 88/14 on the year. And he's just turned 19.
On the other hand, you have different fingers.

He actually is helping make up for the disappointment that Medina is - right now. Emphasis on the words "right now". After all, the kid (Medina) is all of 19 years old. The hype got ahead of his performance.

Charleston got a combined no-hitter from Junk, DeCarr and Alvarez.

Junk had a weird pitching line: 5 inngs, 0 hits, 1 R, 0 ER, 6 Ks, 1 BB, 1 Wild Pitches, 2 HBP, 1 E. He basically cost himself a perfect game due to his own doing.

Gray has imploded this year and the trade looks awful now but it was a good trade at the time.

They are still very good assets that every team recognized as such. All players in their top 10 on an extremely strong farm going into the season.

A trade isn't judged by if it was a good trade at the time, or you thought it was. Many on this board didn't like this trade, and didn't like Gray as a pitcher. They were right. If you trade multiple assets for a pitcher, and the pitcher is crap, it was a bad trade. There's no "It was a good trade at the time." You had the wrong valuation and projection on the player.

What killed me about that trade was Gray missed something like the last two months of the 2016 season with shoulder problems and then missed time early in 2017 with elbow problems. Subsequently his vertical release point on all pitches has fallen several inches which screams to me that we're dealing with a pitcher who is afraid to use max extension for fear of blowing out his arm. Gray is hurt, has been hurt, and was damaged goods when Cashman acquired him. This trade should be a huge black mark on Cashman's tenure as GM and it's really too bad it occurred prior to his signing his extension this winter which also coincided with the Stanton deal. He's made some good trades but also way more than his fair share of absolute disastrous deals, from the sole perspective of the asset acquired as opposed to the ultimate dispensation of what was given up. You can trade away all of the Gleyber Torres type prospects you want so long as the player coming back performs to expectations and contributes to a winning ball club.

I've long contended that NY has a hole or a blind spot somewhere in their pitcher evaluation process, and it seems to hang persistently no matter the personnel in charge of scouting and player development. Unless and until this changes guys like Severino will be much more 'lucky finds' than 'educated selections'. Unfortunately it appears that they may be developing a similar tendency with regard to plate discipline, based upon what we've seen with the position players at lower levels these past few seasons. Just because a team can throw millions of dollars at a problem doesn't guarantee that the money will be employed either intelligently or in a mission-sensitive manner. At the rate things are going the Red Sox will both win a World Series and replenish their farm system before the Yankees enjoy the type of postseason success the fans so desire.

Cashman has his work cut out for him this off-season. Lots of wasted development time this year and that cannot, must not, be allowed to continue.
