Re: 2018 Yankees Minor League News & Notes
So what is a good player comp for Gleyber Torres? Considering skill sets, and I know he isn't a finished product yet either, but he seems like he could be an Alex Bregmann type.

Re: 2018 Yankees Minor League News & Notes
Yeah, that's a good comp at this point.
The "problem" I've always had with Torres is that the production isn't blatant/flashy enough to elicit obvious comps/predictions. There's a lot of projection involved for a guy that most scouts feels is "safe".
At the core of Gleyber's huge talent are veteran OBP skills and fundamentally excellent defense. Bregman is the same type of guy.Jaret Wright's 2005 Cy Young Season: 20-3, 3.04 ERA

Re: 2018 Yankees Minor League News & Notes
Yeah, that is the vibe I have been getting from what I have been reading about him too. Sometimes I can view things too much through a fantasy baseball lens with young players, so glad to see I am not too far offbase. Anthony Rendon is the other guy who comes to mind, though maybe Torres doesn't have the same projected hit tool Rendon was given as a minor leaguer

Re: 2018 Yankees Minor League News & Notes
Every level he goes to he hits, and the advanced metrics (wRC+, etc) are always eye-opening. The hit tool is his best scouted tool. The power is projected, but at such an accepted level that it almost sounds like it's already here when scouts write him up. They're so sure of what he'll be.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's either of those guys or even more.Jaret Wright's 2005 Cy Young Season: 20-3, 3.04 ERA

Re: 2018 Yankees Minor League News & Notes
Yeah, for sure, but there's enough intrigue around his skills/development curve to dream about him being more. Here's video of one of his bombs in the AFL last year when he was 19 years old. The power alley in RCF in Scottsdale is roughly 360 feet, so this is probably around a 400 foot shot to the opposite field.

Re: 2018 Yankees Minor League News & Notes
Craig: Is Royce Lewis growing on you? Who do you like more between him and Florial?
Keith Law: That’s not close for me. Even if I’m right that Lewis will move off shortstop, he’s a much better hitter than Florial.
Don: I think Andujar will be respectable overall if he is given a fair chance, your opinion?
Keith Law: I do. The rare unheralded Yankees prospect.
DJ: Do you like Estrada as a good utility guy?
Keith Law: Thairo? That’s about right.Jaret Wright's 2005 Cy Young Season: 20-3, 3.04 ERA

Re: 2018 Yankees Minor League News & Notes
It probably didn't get much notice amidst all the Cole speculation last week, but Cashman, talking to me about the Yankees pitching prospects, saved his highest praise for Albert Abreu, the 22-year old righthander who came from the Astros last winter in the Brian McCann trade.
Abreu moved up two levels during the 2017 season, finishing the season at Class A Tampa, then impressed scouts during the Arizona Fall League. One scout, in fact, said Abreu had the most impressive start he saw of any pitcher there last fall.
All of which prompted Cashman to compare Abreu to Luis Severino.
"He's more advanced than Severino was at that stage," Cashman said. "It doesn't mean he'll be as good, but he's an exciting talent."Calmer than you are
