Maybe but NY really doesn’t have a 40 man crunch this year, and if they do add someone, that means they have to stay there all season or be exposed when taken off.

True, but it could also be that the Yankees feel they need X spots to protect the mL players they feel need to be protected in the Rule 5 draft. If they happen to sign someone before (or even after) they protect these players, then Higgy becomes a casualty with Lavarnway providing depth.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

Unless they trade him for Kluber, Paxton or Carrasco.

16 year old Osiel Rodriguez (he turns 17 this week) and 18 year old Anthony Garcia move into the MLB.com top 30 NY prospect list, replacing Sheffield and Swanson. That makes 11 teenagers in NY's top 30 there, that is a ton of youth for better and worse.

Finley's dad works for the Dodgers, is he the guy who had Steve Blass syndrome or is that someone else?

He definitely has that. Really awful BB rates.

    You’re thinking about Jeff Degano.

Yes, DeGano had the throwing WP issues. To bad he had good stuff and was a big lefty. Drew had great spin rates but never really gained any velo as he developed.

Thank you! This was killing me, I just looked it up and he had 34 walks in 6.2 innings over 2016 and 2017 before being released last year, that is just wow.

Re: 2018 Yankees Minor League News & Notes

But also, Finley had 6.6 BB/9 last year. So you’re not wrong to associate him with that issue.

It was definitely Degano I was thinking of, way way past wild.

Crazy to see. I was at a SI game in HV and Jeff stopped the game 4 times throwing WPs warming up. So sad. They did give him time but It seems to be like a batters hitch.

Look at his last two "seasons" because they are incredibly sad:

Amazing to think that he pitched 1 inning in '17, yet he faced some batter 3 times and 8 other batters twice. Normally the leadoff guy might enjoy the prospect of hitting 3x in the inning, but maybe not so much with 4 HBP and 9 walks. For safety reasons alone, can't believe they let him stay in there.

He probably made multiple appearances to get that one inning.

Yes, it was actually five appearances.

Also he had 15 wild pitches in those 6.2 innings, poor kid.

This is a bit of a head scratcher, for me. Maybe if Valdez was 20, but he is 23 and hasn't advanced past A ball.

Foley was rule 5 eligible, Valdez isn’t yet.

I'm sorry to see Payton go west... A gritty ball player who was situationally sound. He had a knack to get on base when needed. I though he should have gotten his CoC last year but it wasn't to be. A lefty bat would have fit well for a bit. I guess his future is better off with the A's. Getting a little Long in the tooth to be buried here..

I thought he was an obvious “instead of Shane Robinson” guy.
