Kay disappointed me today because instead of admitting his mistake, he tried to change what he actually said yesterday.

I don't think he's trolling on this, I think it's the language barrier.

I think he's missing a "that" from his original tweet, and it would have made all the difference in the world:

"They don't give me THAT offer yet" instead of "They don't give me offer yet".

He got caught in a bogus rumor and only made it worse.

Exactly. He got caught lying (or at best, passing along bogus information) then he tried to back track by claiming that Cashman asking Darvish’s agent what it would take to sign his client is somehow the same thing as offering him 7/$160 Million because that’s what it will likely take. He sounded like a clown.

He did sound like a clown because yesterday he was talking about the offer being pulled off the table because there was 24 or 48 hour window for acceptance by Darvish.

I was very disappointed by Kay today for not admitting his mistake and just move on.

He certainly did make it worse as I'm going to take whatever he says in the future with a grain of salt.

Now, we have Darvish changing this story. Talking about misleading the public, first Michael Kay and now Darvish. Who's lying here?

7 years? We'd be lucky to get 4 above average year out of him.

Hearing that, contrary to tonight's developments, the Yankees have not made an offer to Yu Darvish.

You know free agency has been a dud, when the most juice you are getting is a he said, he said about contract offers.

I don't doubt that we have spoken to him and maybe even offered him something. The issue was the 7/160...which was a figure seemingly plucked out of Narnia.

I pray Darvish responds to that:

Seven year 160mil deal for a 31 year old. Doesn't sound like Cashman. I call BS.

Agreed. Teams want to capitalize on the Yankees self-imposed hard cap and ask for the moon in trade. The Yankees should sit back and see how the market develops. They could always make the move later.

Re: MLB free agency: Yankees targeting Yu Darvish

"After initially disputing a report that the Yanks haven’t made him an official offer as a free agent, Darvish took to Twitter again later Friday to clarify that they had — just not at the reported contract terms: seven years and $160 million, as Michael Kay said on his ESPN radio show Thursday.
“Sorry guys. My mistake,” Darvish tweeted. “Actually they did make offer but the numbers are not correct.”
Yankees sources, however, told the Daily News that no offer was made, although such parameters may have been discussed."

“Do we recognize Yu Darvish as a unique talent and a premier starting pitcher in the marketplace? Yes we do,” Cashman said. “Would we be one of the last teams standing (in any bidding for Darvish)? I can’t answer that.
“I do think there are things we can do to create (payroll) flexibility. And that’s why you stay engaged with high-end guys in the marketplace.”

Boy I hope Cashman is just driving up the price. We don't need to spend 8 figures on a guy who was mediocre last year and a playoff choker.

It seems like the feeling is the upper-end of contract length on Darvish is 5 years. The 7 from Kay was just asinine.

Similarly, the Astros are believed to prefer having Cole for the next two years, before he becomes a free agent after the 2019 season, rather than commit to Darvish for as many as five years.

Same. Although I'd rather higher AAV for 4 years. IE: 4/100 over 5/115.

Why would that make a difference, if I might ask? One year's difference?

4 years should be the absolute upper end. However, the $100M would be just plain nuts. I don't see Cashman doing that.

I dont think you're getting him for less than 4 years- no chance. 4-5 years will be where he ends up, depending on AAV. I was just throwing out numbers for a hypo, but I think I'd do 4/100 for him assuming we could trade off Gardner or Ellsbury.

I mean, yeah. I cant see him being even a serviceable starter in 5 years.

Re: MLB free agency: Yankees targeting Yu Darvish

Hmmm... Here's a question.. mega IF Yankees were to sign Darvish... would u attach a strong SP prospect (Acevedo, Adams, etc) just to get someone to eat half of Ellsbury deal?. Basically buying a prospect while adding an OF for 3/30. Would any team jump?.

You would have Montgomery as the 6th guy and IMO both Sheffield and Abreu are better bets...

    Just spitballin
