Still mildly interested in the incentive stipulations. I have a feeling they're going to be costly, but I hope they're not easily attained.

I haven't seen anything regarding incentives - everything I have read says "One year worth $10m", not "one year with a $10m base plus incentives".

Never mind, just found an update stating innings incentives. I would guess maybe $1m for 100 IP, then $500k for every 50 IP after that?

Innings incentives are controversial if, like Joe, Boone won't let him go more than 5+.
Standings: Big Inning 32-16; Blue Cut 27-21; Shoo Fly 26-22; Husk 22-26; Frank Pierce 21-27; Iowa City 16-32.

Details on his incentives. Most he can earn is $2 million. He gets 500K for reaching each of the following plateaus:

    155 IP
    165 IP
    175 IP
    185 IP

that amount is low enough that there's no real concern about Boone pulling him to keep his IP down

(I don't think this was a factor for Joe but not sure of it) t always felt Joe left CC in the game too long and would lose the lead when he took CC out (5+). I remember one game I watched the pitch count was over 140 but he was still good. It was pen management drove me nuts with Joe and we will see if Boone makes these fast changes. One important point in Joe's defense - he did NOT have a go to LOGY last year.

Why is that a point in Joe's defense? If he had had a LOOGY, he would have been sure to misuse him.

Maybe. That's too easy for me - HE USED SHREVE as his LOOGY. He did not have one to go to when he wanted a lefty even when I wouldn't make a change. I don't really have confidence in Shreve (I am sure there are others that disagree); maybe he will improve this year. Seems like ancient history but wasn't there Logan and I thought he was good (4M/yr for 3 yrs)? I still like a Lefty specialist in the pen that come in to face a lefty and just throws strikes and we still don't have one.

Because we don't need one, we have guys who are dominant against both lefties and righties. The problem with a LOOGY is not only does he clog a roster spot, the other manager can often just pinch-hit and then what?

Yes, call it a David Ortiz handover (glad he retired and the BoSox resign Moreland). Don't you think we still need lefties in the pen. Even if they pinch-hit you don't have to face him; but I do agree having a dominant pitcher is best and I like our pen. Joe loved the lefty (Shreve)- lefty matchups too much. Instant anxiety. I know the stats and the advantage goes to the pitcher but I never felt it with Shreve. He will be on the roster next year and I think he started out OK.

I will be very very surprised if Shreve is on the roster again, and no, we need (we have) great relievers. It doesn’t matter much whether they’re lefties or righties IMO.

Re: 2018 Official CC Sabathia performance thread

    Q. Why didn't Sabathia want to join Yankees' rivals during the off season?

    A. The veteran lefty recently made it clear that he wasn’t going to sign with a rival of New York’s, as he doesn’t want to face the potent Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge led lineup.

In his words, “That’s why I wouldn’t have gone to the Blue Jays,” Sabathia said (H/T ESPN). “I’m not coming to Yankee Stadium and getting my a** kicked.”

Even if CC has another excellent season like 2017, he won't crush it in innings. There is too much evidence out there showing how quickly he falls off the cliff. I love the big guy but you really have to get him out at the first sign of trouble.

Can’t really consider a season excellent if he can’t be counted on to go through the batting order a 3rd time.

    Absolutely agree.
