How much better he is against lefties is just silly.

He’s gotta make an adjustment against righties. The platoon split is so pronounced that it can’t be a coincidence.

He has been the best hitter in baseball against lefties so far, an almost unfathomable 1.658 OPS after today.

The splits discrepancy isn't really a concern to me. It's a SSS and will iron itself out via adjustments and luck over the course of the season.

He had pretty big splits last year also actually, it just didn't matter because the R side was still very good, L/R of 1.221/.958 OPS.

Yeah, that makes sense, he's better against lefties in his career. The end.

The discrepancy will close as the season goes on, with his OPS against lefties dropping and his one against righties rising. We're just analyzing him at an awkward point in his numbers.

9 players in MLB have put a ball in play at 117 MPH or greater this season.

8 of them have each done it once so far, including Judge.

Stanton is the 9th, and today's 2-RBI single in the first was his fourth such ball in play.

that tweet is both misleading and incorrect. ???

    2018: .232 .324 .477 .801 / 9 HR, 23 RBI

One more thing, on 05-13-17 Stanton played in his 35th game of the 2017 season. On 05-13-18, Stanton played in his 40th game of the 2018 season due to starting the 2018 season in March this year.

Therefore, the following are his 2017 and 2018 numbers after playing in 40 games each season:

    2017: .263 .339 .533 .872/ 11 HR, 27 RBI in 171 PA
    2018: .252 .339 .516 .855/ 10 HR, 26 RBI in 177 PA

Stanton has the same amount of walks at 18 through his 40th game in 2017 as well as 2018. However, the big difference between the two seasons so far after the 40 game mark is he struck out 41 times in 2017, compared to 55 times in 2018. With that said, he's only struck out 12 times in May, 2018, as most of his 55 strikeouts were in March/April. Without much doubt, his pitch recognition and laying off pitches out of the strike zone has improved in May compared to March/April.

Re: 2018 Giancarlo Stanton Performance Thread

    Over the last two weeks:

    14.6% BB, 18.8% K, 234 wRC+

    .350 / .458 / .825 / .1.283

Despite the slow start and hyper-analysis, his seasonal 10.6% BB and 30.6% K are almost right in line with what he's produced over the last few years. If he goes on a tear he's suddenly right back to being an MVP candidate.

JD Martinez has homered tonight so it'll be a bit different tomorrow, but entering tonight Stanton had the same 1.4 WAR as Martinez, despite JD getting off to a blazing start at the plate and the two of them playing almost the exact same amount of games in the field (21 JD, 22 Stanton).

Currently has a higher WAR than Joey Votto (1.3), Bryce Harper (1.2), and Jose Altuve (1.1).

Stay healthy, Giancarlo, and this summer is going to be a LOT of fun.
