    The Hunt for Giancarlo Stanton

#Yankees in play for Stanton, sources tell The Athletic.
    -Rosenthal

Sources: Yankees making progress on a trade for Giancarlo Stanton. One source cautioned nothing done. Another was confident it’s moving toward that. Either way, momentum for Stanton to Yankees is significant.
    -Passan

Plus Leyritz tweet. This going to go down tonight?

That it has even reached this point is mildly insane.

I like it only if Ellsbury is included in the deal and they only give up Frazier plus some lower tier prospects.

That Jomboy guy reporting Monty going the other way. That would hurt. Can't give up a spot in the rotation.

Sources: The Yankees recognize they’re in a position of significant strength right now. Same with Giancarlo Stanton, who can decide exactly where he wants to go and force a deal. And the Marlins ... well, the Marlins are trying to figure out how to best salvage an absolute mess.

Joe Torre would have a heart attack about a lineup that had your three best hitters all hitting from the right side.

Why would Ellsbury approve that trade?

There’s progress on Yankees Stanton talk and hope, but hurdles remain. It’d likely be a mix of prospects with a high-priced veteran “(s) going to Miami too.

Probably one of the hurdles. Maybe Miami promises to buy him out.

The Marlins would waive him immediately and he could become a FA to pick a team which could give him some playing time.

I'm a big fan of Montgomery, but if it is the cost of unloading Ellsbury and 100% of his salary I'd be ok with.

If Brett Gardner and his $13 million salary are to be part of a Stanton trade, he can’t stop it. He’s about a half-season from having 10-5 rights. Jacoby Ellsbury has a full no-trade clause, however.
