Re: The Hunt for Kevin Maitan

The Yankees are looking to add catching prospects and Abraham Gutierrez, who received a $3.53 million signing bonus in the same 2016 class as Maitan, also is free, as are middle infielders Ji-Hwan Bae, Yunior Severino and Livan Soto, and pitchers Yefri Del Rosario and Juan Contreras, among others.
I want to go on record as being completely for signing Yunior and Yefri. It must suck to grow up in a country with no j’s
I understand that Yeter and both Yoes rate them very highly. Yust an FYI

Reminds me of the old one about the Swede on a job interview:

INTERVIEWER: Where did you get your education?
    SWEDE: Yale.
INTERVIEWER: Very good ... What was your name again?
    SWEDE: Yohnson.

Re: The Hunt for Kevin Maitan

I wonder how much they gave him and what pool it came out of, considering they're one of the 7 finalists on Ohtani. I'd suspect 2018 because of this?

Angels acquired extra cash just last week for this. Damn.

$2.2 million, but still no word on if it's 2017 or 2018 pool money.

If it's 2.2M then it's 2018 as they didn't have that much left in their 2017 pool. You can't split the pools either to sign any of those former Braves prospects.

Seems like a miss. Even if you use him in a package was probably worth 2.2m.

Re: The Hunt for Kevin Maitan

He chose the Angels, and this should be considered a win for them, since their farm system has been particularly barren in recent years. Maitan ranks No. 38 on MLB.comís Top 100 prospect list. That will make him the Angelsí No. 1 prospect immediately, as their previous top prospect, Jo Adell, wasnít even in the Top 100. Itís also a win for Maitan, who has now pulled in $6.45 million of bonus money.
Didn't realize the Angels' farm system sucked so bad.

It's worse than that. Pipeline tweeted earlier that Maitan was the first time the Angels had even a top 100 prospect in their system since November of 2015!

From what I've read the Yankees did not prioritize this player, they are targeting other players who their evaluators believe are better prospects. So I'm not going to get worked up over this.

I think that money is still earmarked for a possible ohtani signing. 2.2mill means it mustíve come out of 2018 as the angels only had about 1.5m for 2017

I could get behind this in a heartbeat. I HATED this signing to begin with.

I love baseball in general and the Yankees just happen to be my favorite team since I knew what baseball was.

You know, Julio Pablo Martinez, the 21-year-old centerfielder from Cuba, is available.

This dude intrigues me like Andy Ibanez did, though he seems to be more athletic and have more upside.

Great ... just don't start a "The Hunt for Julio Pablo Martinez" thread. "Hunt" threads have a 20 hit tool.

Nice reference. Free agency does get pretty cutthroat....
