Pujols has 2,968 hits. If and when he reaches 3,000, 2001 will be the first year that both leagues' Rookie of the Year reached 3,000 hits. The AL Rookie of the Year was Ichiro. The closest this came to happening was in 1977, when Eddie Murray got 3,255 hits and Andre Dawson got 2,774.

Cool. I don't have time to look it up, but I wonder how many times both rookies of the year ended up getting inducted into the HOF. Murray & Dawson are there, and barring a shocking development, Pujols & Ichiro will be as well.
