    Estivan Florial - 2018

Where do you think Florial will begin and end in the minors this year?

Begin and end at A+. No need to rush him.

He already has 19 games at A+. He's definitely ending the season at AA.

The Bombers have six prospects in Baseball America's top-100 rankings

They included Gleyber Torres (No. 6), Estevan Florial (No. 38), Justus Sheffield (No. 41), Miguel Andujar (No. 59), Albert Abreu (No. 77) and Chance Adams (No. 81).

Torres, who turned 21 in December, has completed his rehab from season-ending Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, and is expected to be given every opportunity by the Yankees to win an everyday job next season.

Florial, who turned 20 in November, is a potential five-tool outfield talent who shot up the charts following a year in which he posted an .850 OPS between Class A Charleston and Class A+ Tampa. He has been considered a non-starter in trade proposals.

Sheffield, the 21-year-old lefty, has emerged as the team's top pitching prospect. It's possible he could have an impact later in the season, though some believe he's still a year away from contributing to the big-league club.

Sheffield, who projects as a No. 2 or No. 3 starter with three-plus pitches by some scouts, is expected to start the 2018 campaign at Triple-A Scranton.

Andujar, who turns 23 in March, will have a chance to compete at third but may not be ready for the majors because his defense remains a work in progress.

Abreu, the 21-year-old righty, is considered more advanced than Luis Severino at this stage of his development, according to Brian Cashman, though the GM noted that doesn't guarantee future success.

Adams, the 23-year-old righty, has won a ton in the minors, though some wonder whether he will ultimately end up as a reliever rather than a starter.

The top-5 prospects were Ronald Acuna (Braves OF), Shohei Ohtani (Angels SP/DH), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays 3B), Eloy Jimenez (White Sox OF) and Victor Robles (Nationals OF).

Ex-Yankees on the list included Jorge Mateo (No. 64, A's), Jorge Guzman (No. 87, Marlins) and Dustin Fowler (No. 88, A's). Mateo and Fowler were included in the Sonny Gray trade, while Guzman was part of the Giancarlo Stanton blockbuster deal.

Chance is overrated, but still surprised he's lower than Abreu.

What do you think of Cashman's view:

    Re: Yankees News & Notes

I really like Abreu and think he is our 2nd best pitching prospect currently behind Sheffield, but that was an odd quote from the start, since at Abreu's age, Severino had already had a dominant string of 11 starts in the bigs, where Abreu only managed 53 innings total across all levels last year and topped off in high A.

Like Rutherford, who fell completely off the BA list

Ah, yes. The former #1 draft pick who, after one poor season at the ripe old age of 20 years old, has been written off by the masses here even though more than a few who are actually in the know believe he played hurt in 2017.

Will definitely be interesting to see what he does in 2018.

Yes, the corner OF prospect who has yet to show any power whatsoever. If and when he does, I'm sure he'll move back up prospect rankings, but right now he looks like a nice case of selling high by Cashman.

Just to put it in perspective for others:

He was the AAA Hitting coach last season and coached every level of the Yanks minor league system beginning in 2010. He ended up coaching almost every hitter who has come up from the Yankees farm system at one point

Never made it past AAA in his playing career and backed up Jesus Montero and Cervelli along the years.

I've met him a couple of times over the years, when attending Minor league games. He is a super nice guy, and in watching him, he seems to interact well with the kids (smiles, clapping hands, slaps on the back, etc.). I didn't realize that he basically has coached or moved around throughout the entire system over the years. He should be an excellent choice.

Nice to see the Yankees promoting both players and coaches from within. Has not happened often before the past few years.

According to a source, Danny Espinosa has agreed to a deal with the Yankees and will be a non-roster invitee at camp. He will compete for the second base job this spring.
