Who WILL manage the 2018 Yankees?

Reports are suggesting the Yankees are getting closer to hiring a new manager. Who will it be (Not who you prefer)

Not until at least 3 more interviews and who will come cheapest perhaps

reports are not suggesting that, Cashman said today he might not hire someone before Christmas.

Waiting for St Nick to be available?
If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

He was asked if not having someone in place before Christmas would be a problem, he said no. That's not the same as saying he may not hire someone until after Christmas

I think it is, but also who cares? No reports are actually suggesting that NY is close to hiring a new manager, that is the point. Not only do they still have a bunch of interviews to do, but they said yesterday that they plan to fly the top candidates down to Tampa for more interviews there later.

Thanksgiving certainly throws a wrench in things, but candidates 3 and 4 are supposed to be interviewed today and tomorrow, that leaves 2 more most likely. Round 1 should be wrapped up if not before Thanksgiving than soon after. Round 2 will likely be only 2 or 3 guys so it should move along fairly quickly unless round 1 gets closer to ten people.

The point Cash was making is that he's not exactly under pressure to get this done, that doesn't mean he doesn't want to.

And the point I was making is that NY is not close to hiring someone, answering the original post.

Also I think they will interview more than six people if needed, I think that Joel Sherman got a little confused with Cashman's statements there. They are taking their time and being as thorough as possible, and there is no reason not to.

More than 5 (Thompson, Wedge, Meulens, Boone, Woodward and alleged Saturday interview) but less than 10 so I guess either way I don't think this thread is THAT presumptuous.

That was a really strange candidate to interview when factoring in the supposed characteristics of a manager they are wanting....

Still think that was more of a bench coach interview

Good point. MAybe the thinking is that if they hire a rookie manager, get a vet to be his bench coach.

The only problem is that they already have a guy for that position - Tony Pena.

I think it should be Meredith Marakovits.

I mean clearly she has communications skills, knows baseball, is comfortable around a camera, has great rapport with the media, and would bring a fresh change to the clubhouse.

If I had to place a wager, I'd go with Thomson. Nobody knows the routine better and he gets along with the players. He could hit the ground running whereas everybody else will need some time to adjust.

I note that Boone received 8.89% of the votes in this poll.
