My list isn't exactly contrarian, but it's idiosyncratic. I decided to rely heavily on "favorite" as movies that bring me pleasure, though others are better. Hell, I can't even claim that all of these are good. But it's not my favorite genre, and these are mostly guilty pleasures.

    1. The Princess Bride
    2. Die Hard
    3. Robocop
    4. Escape From New York
    5. El Mariachi
The Princess Bride would have definitely made my list if I considered it an action movie. I thought about it but ultimately decided no.

Yeah, but even YOU managed to narrow your top 5 down to 5. And if you have difficulty with that, just be like me and give John extra work by taking advantage of his 20 entry generosity.

It was hard because the category was so slippery. My problem wasn’t narrowing it down to 5, but finding movies that I thought belonged. In fact, my whole Top 10 List wasn’t much help. I finally realized that my favorite action movies are mostly entertaining junk.

I'm calling shenanigans on this contest because I was the only person to mention The Adventures of Robin Hood.

What can I say? I’d rather watch El Mariachi again.

I just saw most of Face/Off again. If this thread weren’t already closed, I’d revise my list, because I think that movie is awesome. Except for the last 15 minutes, anyway

I am stunned! You chose a movie that co-stars Nicholas Cage. Doesn't that disqualify you from ever having an opinion again?

(not that I'm a Nic Cage hater, in fact I like a lot of his movies)

Nicolas Cage and JohnTravolta. I shock myself.

But I’ve never hidden my love for Raising Arizona.

Hey, there's one we agree on! Probably Scorsese's most underrated.
