Rules for signing former Braves prospects:
    *Dec. 5-Jan 15 window
    *$200K exemption for any bonus
*Team can pick '17-'18 signing period or '18-'19
*Showcase for 12 players planned for end of Nov.

Looking at the fine print of these rules and I need to amend earlier statement. Teams under penalty can offer only $300K. W/exemption, only $100K would count toward bonus pool. But offer is capped.

I'm more inclined to sign another of their prospects: catcher Abrahan Gutierrez, is a position we need some depth, he might be my option 1 and then Maitan

In this topic I have to trust the Yankees, they have a great record in scouting young players, they might already be in one of the guys who is flying under the radar

If I was the Twins, i would just use all that remaining IFA cap space to go hard at these guys right away and hopefully sign them before the Yankees/Rangers/Mariners/etc are done focusing on Ohtani. May as well get something rather than have a pretty small shot at Ohtani.

When Jesse Orosco retired it was sad day for me because that meant I was now older than every player in MLB.

It would be great if Otani could decide before December 5th. If he does not want the Yankees we would have plenty of cash to splurge on these guys.

Don't give up on Kevin Maitan yet. Somebody's going to spend a lot on him and for good reason. All talk of his Appy numbers should include this: that league had one regular born in 2000 this year. He was it.
Yeah, I definitely still want him, but these kind of reports are a little disconcerting when talking about potentially sacrificing the majority of whatever budget you choose to allocate his bonus to:

    https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-...and-its-harsh/

I saw Maitan firsthand during his stateside debut in the 2016 Fall Instructional League. He had already thickened up quite a bit at that point and seemed likely to move to third base sooner than anticipated. But the bat speed, arm strength, and feel to hit were all as advertised. I left satisfied that Maitan, whom I had already projected to third base anyway, was as advertised.

Then 2017 reports started coming in. Scouts expressed concern over Maitanís thickening body, some dropping a 30 on his lateral range at shortstop and projecting him over at first base. Others didnít like his swing, citing stiffness and length. Pro scouts couldnít understand what all the international fuss was about.

Maitan still has enviable bat speed and bat control, but any team that pursues him is pursuing a talented reclamation project, not a presently enticing talent. Heís still just 17 and itís far too early to give up on Maitan as a prospect, but unless you view him using his amateur reports as context, you might not even think he is one.

For some reason the first player that made me feel old was Pat Kelly. Even though he's a few years older than I am he was the first player that felt like he was my age. And then he retired and it was a bit of a WTF moment.

He looks pretty big for a 17-year-old. Thick thighs

I used to say that you know you're old when the guy you remember as rookie of the year is now in the Hall of Fame. I've since amended that to say you know you're old when the guy you remember as rookie of the year has a son in the Hall of Fame.
