Its so predictable that he is rusty when he rests too much. Why cant he throw 10 pitches in the bullpen with a batter standing there, rather than having him throw 30 pitches to get through 1 inning. Or they cpuld have had him throw in the 9-4 game yesterday, and limited his count.

I just want to point out that this disaster occurred after 4 days of rest for him.

The last time he had 4 days of rest he hit someone in the head with a FB on his second pitch and got accused of headhunting.

I don't think all relievers need regular work, but..........this one does.

So it seems clear that, in the future, Joe shouldnt allow such a long gap in between appearances?

How many more games is this jackass going to blow this year? What a stupid person. Every time he blows a game he talks about how he has to use his fastball more. Never learns. Absolute moron.

who cares that when the guy is great he's great...too often he has zero command and blows up...not a closer, that's middle relief status

    Re: Betances 2017 Performance Thread

Betances can never be a closer because he walks too many guys. Not to mention he can't locate anything.

I feel like he hasn't had a fastball all year. Hasn't been able to locate it at any point this year.

I think you need to start tightening your bullpen. There are very few guys to trust, but I give Betances 6th-7th man duty.

Bridge if they get a 6 inning start:

    7th: Chapman
    8th: Robertson
    9th: Green

you can flip it and have green set up and robertson close

Well yes. Levine said he wasn't a closer. He continually shows that he is, in fact, not a closer.

Betances has value. And I trust him over Chapman and Kahnle. I just think he's a 6-7 inning guy. He and Green should flip flop.

I also think he's reached his peak value and the Yankees will be better served to trade him.

    Re: Betances 2017 Performance Thread

The Yankees can get excellent value for Betances and they're not going to pay him what he wants and honestly not sure if they really should.

It's tough. I feel like the only 2 mentally tough guys in our bullpen, also have the worst stuff - Warren and Robertson.

I don't think you cut out Chapman and Betances, but they have very short leashes...and Robertson and Warren clean up their messes. The Yankees bullpen stinks with inherited runners, but I "trust" those guys, then Green. Very liberal use of the word trust.

    6th - Betances/Warren
    7th - Robertson
    8th - Chapman/Warren
    9th - Green

I'm not sure how Green handles it, but the safest bet is David Robertson to close, especially if there is a postseason. Chapman can't handle it. He didn't last year.

    Re: Betances 2017 Performance Thread

I mean he did have a 1.50 ERA in August with no blown saves. Is he shaky at times? Yes. But let's not act like he isn't productive and at minimum a set up guy.

The walk to Beckham is more unforgiving than the HR to Machado.

Warren has been very bad lately. I still think the strongest we can be is with Robertson closing and a mixture of Chapman/Betances/Green in the 7th/8th innings

I posted this in the Game Thread, worth repeating here:

Dellin on whether he was struggling with fastball command: "I didn't throw many, but the ones I threw weren't good. I kinda yanked a few there. I think I only threw three or four. Gotta do a better job of mixing it next time out."

    From the YES postgame show.

Ugh...WHAT? You and Chapman need to be sat in a room beaten with chanclas until you realize that the one pitch nonsense eventually catches up with you.
