He is turning the lower portion of his body toward home plate earlier, and his arm almost seems to be trailing behind. It's like he's whipping his arm around instead of "firing" the pitch in. This would also explain why his [pitches are not even close to a strike in many cases.

He's out of whack. Same issues he had as a starter. Can't repeat his motion.
I mean, when you are walking as many batters as Betances is right now, something is obviously out of whack with your mechanics. It shouldn't be that difficult for Rothschild to spot something.

He seems to be in a situation where he's either going to make adjustments and return to his past form or turn into Rick Ankiel.

If he's able to get ahead with his curve. He's golden.

If not, he might as well put up the IBB sign after getting to 2-0

I was wondering if it would have been better for him to fail spectacularly there so he hit rock bottom in a situation that does not impact the Yankee record. Forcing him into a movie-like montage with a tough-love coach, rediscovered dedication (wind sprints on the GW bridge at 5 am) and eventual redemption where he strikes out the side to win the world series and then uses Levine's head to open a champagne bottle

Donnybaseball asked this question in the ASG thread, but at the risk of overstating the obvious, I'll give my opinion here:

Mills was showing Girardi when to turn to a pitcher that you have to use, and you currently cannot rely on.

Thankfully Daniel Murphy went up and started off the AB swinging at a pitch at his ankles

After he got the two quick outs, I was thinking that this will help with his confidence after a poor 3 1/2 week stretch. Then he reverted to the wildness that has plagued him recently and it very nearly turned out to be another performance that could have done nothing but bad things to any confidence gained back.

I was hoping there was a pitching coach at the ASG that could sort him out.

Yes and I don't think replacing Betances is an option for this year. We are going to live or die with the kid.

That being said, moving him down in the Joe Girardi pecking order might be the easy fix. Not sure why he was first out of the pen in the AllStar game.

Better to know early in the game how many runs you will need?

That's encouraging to see. He still doesn't really look like himself out there, as evidenced last night when the end result was fine but he was nonetheless making me squirm in my seat the whole time.

Dellin pitched an immaculuate inning in the eighth inning ... the only good thing about today's game.

Here's some more salt. It's not yet on Baseball Almanac's Immaculate Innings list, but someone already edited the Wikipedia page to add it:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...n_nine_pitches

Just 82 pitchers are on that list. Three did it twice (Lefty Grove, Nolan Ryan, and Randy Johnson); Koufax did it three times.

Oddly, it seems to be the thing this season ... this was the sixth one so far in 2017, while there were only 3 in 2015 and 2016 combined.
