Yeah, I assume the Caps will win, but it would certainly be Cap-like to blow it now.

Past seasons, yes. But this Caps team seems to be different. They could lose tonight but if so will close it out on Sunday.

Alex Ovechkin has been playing like a man possessed this postseason and Barry Trotz pushed the right button in goal bringing back Braden Holtby since Game 2 of their Round 1 series against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

I expect the Vegas Golden Knights to go out there and just play. They have nothing to lose. No matter what happens, they had a tremendously successful freshman campaign in the NHL. Question is, can Vegas continue to build and maintain that success from this year?

Half of the pressure is on the Washington Capitals since they're up 3-1 and only once saw a team come back from 3-0 and 3-1 down to win it all and that was back in 1942, but I won't be surprised if they had a sixth edition of a 3-1 collapse and lose it all.

If that happens, it will be the worse to overcome for them.

Re: 2017-18 NHL Hockey Season Thread

Two periods in the books in Game 5 from T-Mobile Arena.

The Vegas Golden Knights lead the Washington Capitals 3-2.

After a scoreless first period, there were five goals scored in the second.

Washington drew first blood at 6:24 when Jakub Vrana scored his third of the playoffs on a mini breakaway.

But Nate Schmidt scored on his former team at 9:40 off some skates and past Braden Holtby to make it 1-1.

Washington regained the lead at 10:14 as their captain Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 15th playoff goal on the power play as the Caps led 2-1.

Vegas refuses to go away as they tied the game at 2-2 at 12:56 from David Perron.

Barry Trotz challenged the goal for goalie interference on Perron, but Christian Djoos shoved Perron into Holtby and the goal stands. Washington lost their timeout on that challenge.

Vegas grabbed their first lead since leading 1-0 in Game 2 when Reilly Smith scored on the power play at 19:31 as the Knights lead 3-2 after two periods.

Shots are even at 20 a piece.

Power plays are 1/3 for the Caps and 1/2 for the Knights.

Knights have the edge in hits 29-16, blocked shots 9-6 and takeaways 14-8.

Will the Caps rally to win the Stanley Cup tonight or will Vegas live to fight another day and force a Game 6 in D.C. on Sunday?

Stay tuned as the final 20 minutes in regulation will start in Sin City.

GOAL! Devante Smith-Pelly makes it a 3-3 game!

Brooks Orpik kept the puck in the blue line and flipped a pass towards the net where Smith-Pelly took it and buries it in front of the net.

GOAL! And it's going absolutely bananas in D.C.!

Lars Eller struck for the Caps again as he tucked home to give his team a 4-3 lead.

Marc-Andre Fleury thought he secured the puck on the butterfly, but it was loose behind him and Eller gobbled the garbage and puts in the back of the net.

The Vegas Golden Knights have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

They had a wonderful and magnificent inaugural season with a run to the Stanley Cup Final.

For Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, pure jubilation as they win their first ever Stanley Cup title.

Congrats to the Caps and DC. They have waited a long time for a winner in the capital. Now Minnesota-St. Paul is the sole owner of the longest title drought by a city with at least 3 major teams (91 Twins).

Lots of red jerseys in that crowd. Not exactly a real hockey town quite yet.

The Conn Smythe Trophy winner is...Alexander Ovechkin.

Well deserved with 15 goals in this postseason.

New York City, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and now add Washington D.C. to the list of cities who won the Big Four trophies of North American sports (NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB)

I also believe that Minneapolis-St. Paul didn't have a team in the final two since the Twins won the 1991 World Series.

I also saw a lot of Caps fans rocking the red too.

Re: 2017-18 NHL Hockey Season Thread

Now that Alexander Ovechkin crossed his name off the list of legendary players to never win the Stanley Cup, I think Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Jarome Ignila are now the best active skaters to have yet to win a Stanley Cup.

As for goalies still active in the NHL, it's Roberto Luongo, Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan Miller and Pekka Rinne.

I'm rooting for Rinne and Henrik to win the Stanley Cup before they retire.

I don't know if Jumbo Joe will do it with the San Jose Sharks. The Maple Leafs need to focus on their blueline. Ignila is 40 and is a free agent. Luongo is stuck with the Panthers who have no direction. Miller is now a backup with the Anaheim Ducks.

I pick Rinne where the Nashville Predators will still have a deep team despite a few moves and Henrik who is on board with the rebuild in Broadway with the Rangers.

Sure road fans manage to get tickets to almost any game and Chicago fans have the money to travel. This photo was probably taken after most Boston fans had left the building and the Hawk fans moved up to watch the cup presentation.

    Nice try, really.

Meanwhile in the American Hockey League, the 2018 Calder Cup Finals will go to a Game 7.

The Toronto Maple Leafs AHL affiliate, Toronto Marlies and the Dallas Stars AHL team, the Texas Stars are deadlocked at 3-3 with Game 7 inside Toronto's Ricoh Coliseum on Thursday June 14.

The Marlies won Game 3 inside Cedar Park's H-E-B Center, 2-1 thanks to goals from Chris Mueller and Calle Rosen.

But Curtis McKenzie scored twice in Game 4 as the Stars edged the Marlies 3-2 to make it 2-2.

The Marlies took a 3-2 lead back home after crushing the Stars 6-2 in Game 5.

Rosen scored twice and Garrett Sparks had 23 saves.

But in Game 6, the Stars forced a winner-take-all Game 7 on Thursday with a 5-2 triumph.

Mike McKenna had 43 saves in the win and Justin Dowling led the Stars with two assists. The Stars also killed all four Marlies power plays.

What an absolute mess in Ottawa. They may need to trade both Karlsson and Hoffman.

    http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nhl/2549/erik-karlsson

Erik Karlsson's wife, Melinda, has filed an order of protection against the longtime girlfriend of Senators forward Mike Hoffman.
Melinda alleges that Monika Caryk led a campaign of harassment against her family after the death of their son and through much of the last NHL season. Hoffman and Caryk have denied this. "Monika Caryk has uttered numerous statements wishing my unborn child dead," said Melinda Karlsson's sworn statement to the court. "She also uttered that she wished I was dead and that someone should 'take out' my husband's legs to 'end his career.' "Monika Caryk has posted over 1,000 negative and derogatory statements about me as a professional." This is a troubling story and it comes during what has already been a tumultuous off-season for the Senators. It certainly adds more fuel to the fire that Karlsson could play elsewhere next year and it could partially explain why Hoffman has been mentioned in trade rumors.
