Re: 2017-18 NHL Hockey Season Thread

We are heading to overtime in Boston's TD Garden.

Tampa Bay Lightning 3, Boston Bruins 3

The Bolts scored the first two goals of the game as Brayden Point opened the scoring, 4:36 into the game.

Nikita Kucherov doubled the lead on the power play for his sixth of the playoffs at 9:53.

The Bruins got on the board on the power play as David Pastrnak scored his sixth of the playoffs at 15:28 as Tampa Bay led 2-1 after the first 20 minutes.

Boston won the second period as Patrice Bergeron struck on the power play at 2:04 to tie the game at 2-2 after two periods.

Bergeron gave the Bruins their first lead of the game as Bergeron scored his second of the game shorthanded at 6:36 of the third period.

But Bruce Cassidy had two bad breaks go against them as they led 3-2.

Torey Krug, who had two assists in the game, left the game with a banged up ankle after he collided awkwardly to the boards in a battle against Alex Killhorn.

And Nikita Kucherov got away with a grab on Charlie McAvoy when Steven Stamkos tied the game at 3-3 at 12:56.

Shots are 30-26 in favor of the Bs and special teams are in Boston's favor going 2/4 on the power play and scoring a shorthanded goal.

Will this series go back to Tampa 2-2 or will the Bolts take a 3-1 lead back to Amalie Arena?

    LIGHTNING WIN!

Dan Girardi with the overtime winner to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-1 lead with a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins in Game 4.

Girardi the winner at 3:18 of the first overtime period.

Ryan McDonagh pinched in to keep the puck in the Boston zone. Alex Killhorn dumped it in where Yanni Gourde poked to Killhorn who raced down the right wing and threw it at the net off Brian Gionta and Girardi poked in the winner past Tuukka Rask.

Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy had 29 saves in the win.

The Bolts can book their spot in the Eastern Conference Finals if they win on Sunday inside Amalie Arena.

The Vegas Golden Knights. Yes, the Vegas Golden Knights are one win away from the Western Conference Finals.

Marc-Andre Fleury and company had to survive a scare though in a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks in Game 5 inside T-Mobile Arena.

James Neal got the Vegas crowd going with his third goal of the playoffs with three seconds left in the first period as Vegas led 1-0 after one period.

It was all Vegas in the second period as Alex Tuch struck on the power play at 4:52 and Erik Haula's touch angle shot that went past Sharks goalie Martin Jones at 8:59 as Vegas led 2-0 after two periods.

Tuch scored his second of the game at 8:36 of the third period that also resulted in Jones being pulled after allowing four goals on 27 shots as Vegas had a commanding 4-0 lead.

But Team Teal refused to quit.

Logan Couture had three assists on all three Sharks as they pulled to within one 4-3 with little over four minutes to go.

Kevin Labanc scored his first of the playoffs on the power play at 9:35, followed by Tomas Hertl's sixth of the playoffs at 11:44 and Mikkel Boedker punched one in four minutes later to put the pressure on the Golden Knights.

However, the Sharks' comeback attempt fell short when Jonathan Marchessault sealed Vegas' win with an empty netter at 18:39.

Fleury made 27 saves in the win as Vegas can close out this series with a win on Sunday from San Jose's SAP Center in Game 6.

The two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins are on the brink of elimination.

Sidney Crosby and company trail 3-2 in their Eastern Conference semifinals series as the Washington Capitals doubled them up 6-3 in Game 5.

It was the Penguins who surface first as Jamie Oleksiak scored his first goal of the playoffs 2:23 into the contest.

But the Caps stormed back with two late goals to take a 2-1 lead after the first period.

John Carlson tied the game at 1-1 at 18:22 and Brett Connolly gave Washington the lead, 2-1 with his goal 33 seconds later.

However, Pittsburgh outscored the Caps 2-0 in the second period to take a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.

Both of those goals were power play tallies as Sidney Crosby scored his ninth of the playoffs at 4:43 and Patric Hornqvist made it 3-2 Pens at 7:45 as Barry Trotz's men committed too many penalties.

But Mike Sullivan's Penguins were roasted in the third period.

Evgeny Kuznetsov tied the game at 3-3 52 seconds into the third period.

Jakub Vrana gave the Capitals their second lead of the game 4-3 at 15:22.

And T.J. Oshie and Lars Eller capped off a 4-0 demolition third period with empty net goals.

Braden Holtby was another Caps hero with 36 saves.

The Penguins have not been eliminated in the Stanley Cup playoffs since 2015 and have not been eliminated at home since 2014. Both of those times were against the New York Rangers.

The Capitals can book their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since their dream Stanley Cup Finals run in 1998 with a win inside PPG Paints Arena on Monday.

If the Penguins win Game 6, it will be a winner-take-all Game 7 inside Capital One Arena on Wednesday.

The Winnipeg Jets are one win away from their first ever Conference Finals berth.

10 different Jets players scored a point in their 6-2 rout over the Nashville Predators in Game 5, wrestling away home ice.

Kyle Connor had two goals and assist with a +3 to lead Paul Maurice's men.

Blake Wheeler had three assists and Mark Scheifele and Dustin Byfuglien each had a goal and assist as they chased Pekka Rinne who allowed all six goals in 26 shots.

Connor Hellebuyck had 38 saves as the Jets have a chance to close it out on Monday inside Bell MTS Place for a spot in the Western Conference Finals.

If the Preds win Game 6, there will be a winner-take-all Game 7 back in Bridgestone Arena on Thursday.

For the third time in the last four years and fourth in the last right, the Tampa Bay Lightning are in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Bolts sent the Boston Bruins packing in five games after a 3-1 victory in Game 5 inside Amalie Arena.

Tampa Bay wins the Best-of-Seven series, 4-1.

But it was the Bruins who drew first blood as David Krejci scored his third goal of the playoffs on the power play at 19:12 to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead after the first period.

The Bolts dominated the second period however.

Brayden Point tied the game at 1-1 at 10:43 for his seventh point of the series and J.T. Miller gave the Bolts their first lead of Game 5 at 14:00 on the power play as Tampa Bay led 2-1 after two periods.

Anton Stralman sealed the series with an empty netter at 18:31 of the third period.

Andrei Vasilevskiy had 27 saves in the win.

The Bolts will await the winner of the Pittsburgh Penguins/Washington Capitals series in the Eastern Conference Finals.

So, the NHL has one team in the Final Four.

Will the Vegas Golden Knights join the Tampa Bay Lightning?

Marc-Andre Fleury and company need to beat the San Jose Sharks in Game 6 from SAP Center at San Jose to continue their Cinderella season.

If Team Teal triumphs tonight, there will be a winner-take-all Game 7 back in T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday.

Boo Bruins. Go Caps and Jets. I have a feeling the NHL will be crowning a first time cup winner this season. Only the Penguins and Lighting are left with a banner hanging from their rafters. I suppose Winnepeg has a WHL banner up there.

The first installment of the Winnipeg Jets have three World Hockey Association Avco Cups before joining the NHL for the 1979-1980 season.

Donniebaseball72 is eating more Vegas Golden Knight crow.

The Vegas Golden Knights are in the Western Conference Finals!

The Knights blanked the San Jose Sharks at the Shark Tank in Game 6, 3-0, to continue their dream run in their inaugural season.

The Sharks were unlucky in the first period with a chance off the heavy metal after the first period was scoreless.

In the second period, Vegas surfaced first as Jonathan Marchessault scored his fourth goal of the postseason at 6:33 to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead.

Nate Schmidt made it 2-0 Vegas at 15:38 after his goal was called good after video review. His shot hit the camera inside the back of the net.

In the third period, the Sharks huffed and puffed, but didn't bring the Marc-Andre Fleury house down and saw a few more shots rang off the metal.

Cody Eakin sealed the series with an empty netter at 18:09 of the third period as Vegas reaches Round 3.

Fleury has his second shutout of the series and fourth overall in the playoffs with 28.

George Gallant's men will await the winner of the Nashville Predators/Winnipeg Jets series in the Western Conference Finals.

With the Tampa Bay Lightning and Vegas Golden Knights punching their tickets to the NHL's Frozen Four, the other two spots could be filled on Monday.

Will Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins keep their three-peat hopes alive and force a Game 7 back in D.C. on Wednesday or will Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals end their 20-year hoodoo and book a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1998?

Meanwhile in the West, the Winnipeg Jets are one win away from seeing any incarnation reaching a Final Four for the first time ever.

Blake Wheeler, Patrik Laine and the Jets would like to do it in front of the Whiteout inside Bell MTS Place.

However, Ryan Johansen, P.K. Subban, Pekka Rinne and the Nashville Predators would like to force a Game 7 back in the Music City on Thursday.

The Bolts and the Golden Knights await their foes this week.

Rangers South take care of the Bruins with ease.

I love this run Vegas is on, but I really can't see them beating Winnipeg if that's who they face. Hell I thought Nashville was the best team in the West and they're clinging for dear life.
