That is true, but Seattle could be looking at a platoon situation. Healy wasn't completely terrible against RHP, but it could be a consideration. Also, from what I have read, Ford is a decent athlete, so wondering if he could offer some versatility as a spot corner OF'er. The Yankees never ran him out there, but they didn't have the need to, either.

    @BryanHoch

Derek Jeterís team picks a Yankee. The Marlins claimed Trenton catcher Sharif Othman in the minor league phase of the Rule 5.

So "add" Othman into the Stanton deal. Aw man, we fleeced now.

In the minor league phase, the Yankees added OF Junior Soto from the Indians.

Former IFL signee back in 2013, played some CF last year, hasn't been out of A ball.

Crickets... fun Mike Ford fact - as a junior at Princeton, he was 6-0 as a SP. 9 starts, 5 CG's, 0.89 ERA. Didn't strike anybody out, though.

I'm way happier no one took Tarpley or Feyereisen, those guys have another year to try to make the 40 man now.

The player the Yankees took, OF Junior Soto, is an interesting gamble.

CLE signed him for $600k as a 16-yo out of the DR in 2013. 6-foot-3. Strong arm. Probably an RF or LF, tho played CF. Big power potential that started to show last season. Ks a ton, though. And never walks.

In the Rule 5 Draft minor league phase, Yankees lost RHP Yancarlos Baez to Twins and lost C Sharif Othman to Marlins.
Yankees selected OF Junior Soto from Cleveland. Batted .174, 9 HR in 52 g at Class A in '17.
In unrelated news, Brian Cashman has left the buildling.

Can't believe no one took Coshaw or Tarpley, especially Tarpley. He is a lefty, he's breathing, and took to the switch to the bullpen very well. He also demonstrated he can go multiple innings from the pen.

It does seem like we did not get taken advantage of as bad as some people thought.

    Agreed.

Not sure why, but no complaints.

The only Yankee player the Marlins selected in both phases of Rule 5 was Othman. They're starving for pitching help and Denbo takes an org catcher. I think the Yanks planned this very well.

Rule V losses are always bitter-sweet for me. While the organizational loss stings, it also creates real opportunity for these players as people. Part of me hopes Mike Ford, Nestor Courts, etc. stick and become big leaguers.

Nestor Cortes (LOL you're autocorrect) -

He's going to get every opportunity to succeed in that BAL rotation.

I would not be at all surprised, as things stand now, if he is in the starting rotation come opening day. That staff is........not good.

Health is always a caveat and potential issues on that front are unforeseeable, but if he stays healthy, he "succeeds" for now as a back-end of the rotation guy for the O's; dude simply knows how to pitch.

Orioles are gonna be terrible and they have 3 open spots in their rotation.

Would be surprised if Cortes gets offered back. Bummer.
