Sounds like it. Don't think he will need more than 2-3 games

He is the official Keeper of the Helmets for guys who come back to the dugout after hitting homers. Who'll take his place when he goes out on a rehab assignment?

Wow, what a lineup when he's back. I wonder what the lineup is going to look like.

In the short term, I think it should look something like:

    Hicks
    Sanchez
    Judge
    Holliday
    Castro
    Headley
    Ellsbury
    Didi
    Bird/Bryan Mitchell

Girardi won't do that because too many righties and then lefties in a row, but Sanchez/Judge/Holliday is your heart and there's no way around that. I don't care that much about the bottom half of the order and when Bird remembers he's not terrible, it'll look better.

    Hicks
    Sanchez
    Bird
    Judge
    Holliday
    Castro
    Headley
    Didi
    Ellsbury

But eventually Bird is batting in the top 5.

I hope Gardner is moved soon.

I'm not sure Sanchez bats 2nd right off the bat. I wonder if Girardi puts him in the #6 slot for a few games, just until he gets back in a regular routine.

Not sure but I hope it does not have Sanchez in the #2 spot. I kinda like Headley or Castro there.

Sanchez hits the first pitch he sees in his rehab in Scranton (thrown by Mark Appel) for an opposite field bomb.

Strikes out in his second AB.

    Now doubles in his third.

It legitimately feels like this young offense has the potential to be a runaway train. My goodness.

Must bat Sanchez and Judge back to back. End of story.

Why? It is kind of nice having Judge batting a bit lower in the lineup, giving us more balance. There are other guys who are doing quite nicely thus far (Castro, Holliday, Didi) who can offer protection. I understand the want of getting these two as many ABs as possible but having guys on base when they come up is also a consideration. Additionally, why upset the apple cart on Judge? Pressures will continue to mount on him (requests for interviews, commercials, merchandising etc) and I feel the Yanks must be somewhat protective however they can. I have no issue if they bat him 6th all season if that helps to reduce expectations and pressure.

Pitchers will soon be pitching around Judge. Good luck with that when Sanchez is batting behind him. Right now if you pitch around Judge, you face a much inferior hitter. You can take the chance.

Re: 2017 Official Gary Sanchez thread

sanchez is like, really good at plate discipline nowadays too. they are pretty similar. i'd bat sanchez in front of judge because judge has more power while i'd like to see how disciplined sanchez could get. if sanchez knows that if he gets on base tehre's a high chance he would score, he might be more focused on swinging at driveable pitches.

these two's sequence is not that big of a deal though. the big thing is having them at the top of the lineup so they get more plate appearances.

btw, sanchez was averaging a 98.81 mph exit velo in his brief time healthy. that would be good for 2nd in mlb, higher than judge. he was just hitting stuff on the ground.
