Star Wars VIII - The Last Jedi

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh4X4N-8fEM

Live stream of today's panel, including a trailer which will no doubt be online in a few.

They also debuted a poster which I think is awesome.

From everything I've read Trevorrow is a pretty sh*tty person on top of being a over hyped director. I turned off Jurassic World after 40 minutes it was so bad.

Eh. It's Hollywood. Most of them are sh*tty people.

Saw it this weekend. There were things I liked, things I didn't. Overall decent action movie but a bunch of holes in the plot. I guess that can describe a good bit of the series so far to date.

    That's how I felt after.

But the more I think about it, the worse the plot holes were.

    Some things made zero sense.

Yeah I know you have to suspend disbelief in a lot of star wars films, but this one seemed to be over the top in some things that were really a swing and a miss.

I did enjoy the film, certainly more than the prequel movies, but not nearly as much as the hype that said "best Star Wars movie since the Empire Strikes back".

There was some good acting by some of the bigger cast members so there was that at least.

    This is getting interesting.

    93% positive critics rotten tomotoes.

But audience reaction almost down to 50%.

From what I've seen, generally, the fans like movies more than the critics.

Now, Star Wars fans are more passionate and vested, so that's a part of it, but a disparity this large is telling.

Johnson uses elements from Empire and even Return of the Jedi, but gave it a different take on the Force/Jedi. I liked it. The third act was overwhelmingly good. There's a lot to unpack from watching it the first time though.

Really enjoyed the movie. I appreciate why some diehards arenít happy with it. It does veer pretty far from a tradional Star Wars movie. Thatís what I liked about it. Took guts. And Adam Driver shirtless might have been my favorite Star Wars moment ever!

I thought the movie was enjoyable and moved at a pace better than TFA. However it wasnt very creative - the movie is basically a replica of the original trilogy plots.

Loved it. I think it is the best Star Wars movie thus far. It is a movie that looks to the future of the franchise rather than the past. In fact, "kill the past" is repeated over and over again.

The film had several moments that I will remember for ever. I can't say that for any bloated Marvel or DC movie. Great performances across the board.

I give it four and a half porgs on a five porg scale.

Screw the fanboys. Kill the past.

If you're going to kill the past, it would be better to do so by making a good movie.

Good thing that it was then.

It made me really excited for Rian Johnson has planned for the new Star Wars trilogy he is helming.

New direction, kill the past, whatever...all fine. Cool with the Rey/Kylo dynamic, Luke character change, etc. But the rest was too much....nothing.
The entire casino scene was useless as was anything involving Snoke. Flying Leia was dopey, Laura Dern added nothing.

    Milk monsters......?

I'll agree the casino side trip was the worst part of the film, however it laid the groundwork for the really cool scene to end the movie and to possibly set up a whole new story in the Star Wars franchise, the boy with the broom.

Snoke is not Johnson's fault. He is a terrible character created by JJ Abrams, and Johnson was saddled with him so he just killed him off, in an awesome way, and we should be thankful for that. It also led to an incredible fight scene with Kylo and Rey.

Dern wasn't really in it all that much, but her silent kamikaze move quickly became one of the coolest moments in the whole franchise.
