    2017 Luis Severino Thread

Don't know how a guy like Romine has a general thread and Severino does not. Still one of the largest pieces of our future in our opinion. If he can just limit the home run, he still has ace potential, even though that's a HUGE if.

    Great start tonight, too.

He was a pleasure to watch tonight. Threw a lot of strikes and had good stuff. Still want him to consistently throw the CU, though.

He's a big wild card for this season's success.

From what I hear Austin Romine's not taking any _hit when it comes to Pineda & Severino throwing changeups. "I'm gonna make them throw that damn pitch and neither one better shake me off."

Next on Romine's "to do" list - he plans on giving Gardner and Ellsbury a "hot foot" every time they're on 1st base, forcing them to steal. :-)

    What a valuable BUC.

SUPER GAME.....Best game I've seen him pitch for a long time. I really like him. (I hope this shuts down this pen notion) I have to wait until the number come out because I have a hard time telling the difference on his slider and CU. He threw more changeups than sliders for the first time. 27% CUs with 61% in the strike zone. What a great performance last night. He is the big wild card this year.

Outstanding game from Severino last night and they way he mixed all of his pitches was impressive. Also, the fact that he threw his change-up so much, and with confidence, makes me hope that he has turned the corner and is only going to do more of the same for the upcoming season.

This guy is so vital for the rebuild. Can't say it enough.

I'm hoping he built up a ton of confidence off of this start.

His first start wasn't actually that bad, I alluded to that afterb that game. It's nice to see him build on it but he'll need to continue to use the change and develop it. His slider is lights out when he's on, but there will be days when he simply doesn't have it and that's where the secondary stuff becomes more important.

True that. The change up is key for him. He has to keep developing it and throwing it.

I hope Rothschild is working with him on slowing that changeup down a couple of MPH- under 90 MPH.

For THOSE who know more about pitching mechanics, long term would Severino be better off incorporating more legs into his pitching delivery?

Would probably help with durability as well as performance tbh. The arm strength is obviously there

you'd want to see lower arm loading if possible.

The guy looks absolutely dominating so far. No changes required...

He's scrapped the changeup through the 1st two innings tonight. Not something you want to see.

Just goes to show that you can have good stuff and location, but if you're predictable, bad things will happen.

he'll only go as far as his changeup. without it, he'll end up in the pen.

    Positives:
    - Any time it's 8IP and 3ER, pitcher is keeping the team in the game. I'll take it.
    - Changeups had more parachute to them tonight. About 85-86. Hope to see more of it.

    Negative:
    - The 2-0 cement mixer to Garcia for the 3-run shot. Uh.

17 whiffs; 8 alone on fastballs. Bonkers. He's become must watch TV now. Touched 98 on pitch 106 also.

Slider has taken a MAJOR step forward this year, I don't think he even needs a changeup with the stuff he's showing.

Slider looks extremely similar to Kluber's.
