Based on your logic that the playoff moment was too big for Severino to be considered an ace, sure all of us should not trade him for Sale, who is even worse in those big moment. Sale is not an ace by your definition.

Keep it simple. Severino has had one very good regular season and a poor playoffs. Sale has had eight good to great regular seasons in a row and a poor playoffs. Severino is not in Sales's league yet. This is not fake news here.

Is Kershaw an ace with his proven so-so postseason track record?

If you think that Severino should just do it longer to be considered an ace, fine. Using playoff performance doesn't prove your point.

Please look at what I said about Sale. I wasn't using just playoff performance.

Basically CC hasnt allowed his opinion and understanding to be skewed by a few post-season appearances.

Thats not ace like. He has a ways to go.
he's one of the youngest aces in the majors. One of the youngest to pitch in the ALCS and that Houston Astros team was no joke.

You need to zip it and appreciate the experience he got.

You need to check the community standards. Maybe you should use better judgement than telling another poster to shut up.

He was mean but judging his ability to lead a staff because of a few postseason starts is silly. Just as silly as everyone forgetting how much they disliked Tanaka because of the playoffs.

23 year old led our staff to the postseason. We're lucky to have him and if he stays at this level for 7 years, I'll be happy.

I'm not sure how you can separate the two. Money, years of control, age, mileage on arm...

Severino took a quantam leap this season and gained invaluable playoff experience. He'll get Cy Young votes. Not sure why there's a big debate over the subjective classification of "ace." He'd have been the #1 starter on numerous teams this year. And the future is bright. I'll go with ace, and no way do I trade him for Sale or Kluber.

Might have slightly off year in 18' due to a bit of over usage.

Yep. A little regression is likely but if he keeps throwing that CU, he has a chance of sustained success.

I wonder if Severino tips his pitches. It's odd that he can be dominating and then all of a sudden he can't record an out.

I recall that Boston game in August as the perfect example.

The newly revised Community Standards should be up soon. I think they will clear some of this up. In the meantime, I can give everyone a preview. There is a section that delineates the expectation that posters respect the opinions of fellow community members. I would say that telling another poster to stop expressing their opinions violates this section.

    Exactly.

He was the third best starter in AL this season.

The only thing I worry about is the innings jump he had this season and what toll that may take on him next season.

But dude's stuff is flat out nasty.

The young man got as much experience in one year than anyone can get!
Another off season with a lot of rest and working with Martinez should help this kid get
a huge jump in all aspects of pitching.
The Yankees have not had a prospect develop this quickly in a very long time and he has a chance of being a number one in their rotation.

Take that damn gold chain off and stop letting things interfere with your concentration.

I like this kid he gives everything he has and with a manager that will let him grow by showing trust during the year he can develop.

the term "ace" is pretty much pointless. right now, he's shown himself to be one of the best ten starters in the majors over the last twelve months. if he does it again next season, then that consistency will be another point to support feeling confident about him.

Wow, if the administration of this forum thinks saying "zip it" should be a violation...

Severino is a finalist for the Cy young, no he wont win it (and shouldn't) but talk about a remarkable turnaround.

He should finish a distant 3rd behind Sale and Kluber.

But yes he had a remarkable season, especially coming of the pretty horrible 2016 stint in the rotation.
