    2017 Ellsbury Thread

Looking pretty good out of the gate, so I guess it is only a matter of time before he hits the DL.

If the Yanks really want to get under the luxury tax, eating substantial money ($30-40M) and trading Ellsbury makes a ton of sense. He can be replaced in house (Frazier/Fowler) at the league minimum. Anything they can save off the payroll would be gravy.

i'm just not sure who's taking on any of his deal... what do you think he's actually worth in terms of AAV?

3/30ish maybe? Assuming a bounce back season, which of course is a dumb assumption.

If we can eat that, I agree, I'd do it. I just don't see that actually being the case though (more skeptical about him having a bounce back season than the value you put on him).

He's batting fourth, which means he has now started a game in every batting order spot.

Props for the DP takeout slide just before Holliday's bomb. Hard -- and legal.

Currently, he's not making me think about the contract.

I hate that contact. Given Hal's want to save money, it never made any sense.

Agreed. He's producing enough not to be a complete embarrassment but he shouldn't be batting #3 / #4. I know that Holliday, Bird, and especially Sanchez have all missed some time but still Ellsbury is not a middle-of-the-order guy. Either he sustains an OBP that justifies slotting him in the #2 hole or he should be in the bottom third.

Be good enough to develop some type of trade market. I'm trying to look at team that would potentially be in contention and need a CF.

Mets might be the best partner. Mariners? Maybe the Cubs?

Why would you say the Mets? If anything they have too many OF's, especially with Lagares coming back.

    Bruce, Granderson, Lagares, Conforto.

I'm just looking at the 2017 WAR totals. Granderson isn't a CFer and Ells could potentially outhit Lagares.

Okay but I don't see the Mets doing us any favors taking on salary when they are paying Grandy alot this year and signed Lagares to a deal through 2019.

We need to the Dodgers to bail us out, make Ellsbury dress up like Carl Crawford and I think we get it done.

With Marte out 80 games and not eligible for the playoffs Cashmoney needs to call the Pirates. Go cash go!

They could use an excellent CFer like Superstar Jacoby Ellsbury.

    How about this.

Jacoby (and we'll kick in 48% of his salary for the remainder of this contract) for Ray Searage.

Does Jake have anything to say about a trade involving himself?

i don't care where he hits or does not hit. i want him to hit enough to make someone give up nothing for him.

Yes - this is what I was asking.
My guess is that no matter what offers come in, Ells has the final say.
I imagine he would waive the clause but are we sure Cashman is going to entertain offers?

    I'm not so sure.
Cash likes Jake. (I do too and I know that I'm odd in doing so)
I hope he does well because it helps the team win when he's on the bases....

despite what some think, cashman is not stupid. if someone offered to take that contract off his hands, he'd take it.
