Ah, taking your cue from CP? We have some really strange posters on this forum. Oh and by the way, Ells with a very nice night last night, in case you hadn't noticed.

I'm very happy with Ellsbury's start to the season. Especially since I lost an OFer to the DL and had to pick him up and put him in my active OF on my fantasy team.

Our cleanup hitter came through big time with that slam and little did we expect the Yanks to come all the way back and win that game.

    Re: 2017 Ellsbury Thread

There's some discussion of Ellsbury in another thread so I'm bumping this one so that back and forth happens here.

Four years and $80 million left on his contract. Barring a trade where the Yanks pay the large majority of his remaining contract I think he's back next year as a fourth OF/bench lefty/pinch runner. After that who knows...to be on the 2019 team he's going to have to make a major resurgence or be a last resort player due to a lot of bad things happening to the what they have now. I don't see DFA as an option until the end of next season at the earliest.

It's actually approximately $68.5M left including the $5M buyout in the last year of the contract.

I was really hoping to find out he was DFA when I saw this was bumped. 🙁
    Bad manager.

    Re: 2017 Ellsbury Thread

Why do you want him DFA'd now? He is not taking anyone else's at bats currently. He is a good pinch runner and serves as a fourth OFer. They would not save money by DFAing him.

Just hope they can and do unload him in the off season to open a roster space and hopefully get a little money back.

IMO, the Ellsbury contract has been Cashman's worst mistake as GM. I think that contract really is on him, not ownership. He just should have re-signed Granderson for the four year contract the Mets gave him. They sure would be in better shape for the salary cap year now.

In his first 27 games after the disabled list, his batting average/on base percentage/slugging percentage/OPS was .173/.280/.222/.502, which lowered his season statistics by .040/.027/.075/.101 from his first game before the disabled list through his 27th game after. On his 34th birthday, he broke Pete Rose's career catchers interference record. I was the first person here and on his Wikipedia post to say that.

Highest BB rate of his career by a good amount (which is the difference between him sucking and being useful). Rest of his success is probably just noise, his batted ball numbers are the same as always.
