    2017 Injury Update thread

We don't seem to have an Official 2017 Gary Sanchez thread, so how about one of these where people can post the latest news on his biceps? Plenty of other injuries to worry about too. For instance:

Also, there's this on Tyler Austin (anyone remember him?), from March 24:

    http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/bas...ng-may-return/
Austin (foot) will progress from a scooter to a walking boot Monday as he aims for a return sometime in May, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

With the offseason acquisition of Chris Carter and a dominant spring from Greg Bird (.432 AVG, six home runs, 11 RBI), Austin may be destined for the minors upon his return. Nonetheless, this is an incremental step in the recovery process and his current projected return date wouldn't put him too far behind the other hitters. After appearing in 31 games for the Yankees last year, expect the highly-touted prospect to make a return to the majors at some point this season.

Respect the bird flu. Bird is still out for the Home Opener.

    Re: 2017 Injury Update thread

There still doesn't seem to be a Sanchez thread, so I guess this goes here:

    http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/1...-biceps-strain

The latest news on catcher Gary Sanchez is a little more negative for the New York Yankees, who announced Monday that he will miss four weeks with a biceps injury.

The team had put him on the 10-day disabled list Sunday.

"I was mentally prepared for anything," Sanchez said after being evaluated Monday.

Sanchez strained his right biceps during his follow-through on a swing Saturday at Baltimore. He grimaced after fouling off a 3-2, 97 mph fastball from Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman in the fifth inning, prompting a visit from Yankees trainers. Sanchez was removed from the game and replaced by backup catcher Austin Romine, who finished the plate appearance with a walk.

"I felt kind of like a pull when I had that swing when I fouled the ball off. I did not feel it on any other swing -- just on that foul off the high fastball," Sanchez told ESPN's Marly Rivera. "I felt like I pulled it right there. I tried to swing, and I felt it again, and they took me out of the game."
Why do I have the feeling we'll be lucky to see him by the All Star Break?

I'm still skeptical that he'll be back by the ASB. Hope he comes back ASAP but could see this being a lingering issue and some Yankees public relations going on.

How does this affect the Gary Sanchez bobblehead promotion? I hear it's one of the most sought after dolls of the season.

They're still giving them away, but they've ordered new ones. He'll have his arm in a sling.

What concerns me most about this injury is not its effect on this season, but rather on his future. Does this indicate some proclivity in his muscle structure? Is it going to be a reoccurring problem when he takes high cuts? Is it at least going to inhibit him in the future from swinging at the high strike? Anyone claim any expertise on this?

Bruised jaw and strained neck for Gardner. All things considered it could have been worse but I suspect we'll see more of Hicksie over the next few days.

As long as he hits but look at the bright side. At least it won't be for Judge.

Sanchez today on Instagram (per the YES postgame show):

I have been away from social media a bit these past days because I have wanted to focus on rehabbing & coming back healthy as soon as possible. Happy to report I am swinging the bat & throwing. Should be back soon. Thank you for all the well wishes. #Iamgary

Chapman going on the DL is discouraging. Not so much because I don't trust Betances, but because it seems like no player can be relied upon to complete an entire season healthy anymore, no matter how much money you throw at them. Hopefully, there's enough depth on this roster to cover for even more of the inevitable injuries to come.

To me at least, Chapman has not looked right since that night when he struggled throwing over 30 pitches at Boston and then he touched/grabbed his arm while walking off of the field. So the inflamed shoulder after two more difficult apapearances is not a surprise at all.

This is the first I'd heard about it. If posting in this thread, can people at least start with news, and links?

    Glad to hear it.

Like others have said, a healthy Austin can still rake. Hope he gets a legit shot while with NYY.
