I'm worried about him reverting to 2017 Spring Training Headley or 2016 offense Headley.

I like this Chase a lot. he's playing like it's a damn contract year. No, he's playing like his family is kidnapped and he has to get the MVP to get them back

When he signed, he turned down more money because he so wanted to be a Yankee. Maybe part if it is that he was just trying too hard, and has finally relaxed a bit.

I'm getting hard just thinking about Headley somehow recapturing 2012... keep him in the #2 hole, slip some bleach into Ellsbury's cereal

I've said a few times over the years I liked Chase, and was excited when he came to the Yankees. He, along with Carlos Quentin, were the first two players I watched regularly in the minors in San Antonio before making the majors. I know he's not a superstar, but a solid player to have in the lineup. The last couple years have been disappointing, and I was expecting him to be let go at some point and would have supported it as much as I did his original signing. I am glad he has seemingly rebounded and, while I know he will come back to earth eventually, hope he can continue to play at a higher level.

    He can't throw.

I think he's the one that gets traded if/when Torres is ready.

Other than the poor throwing, the inability to catch the ball and the not hitting... he's ok.

7 Es in 30 games. On pace for 38 for the season. Worst in baseball in 2016 was 23 (Suarez of the Reds).

He has to to get better, doesn't he?

Yeah, he has to....or I have to think he gone.

Somewhere between how he is playing now and the way he started is all we need. Unless maybe he is just at that stage of his career.
If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

    Re: 2017 Chase Headley Thread

The defense is cause for concern. What is the problem? It is not age. Is it his back? Is it mental? He is not telling the coaches apparently. I feel bad for him.

He cannot continue on the recent error and near-error pace. If he does, they will have to do something. I assume it would be playing Torreyes more, hoping Headley comes out of it. Ultimately, there are two options in the minors if the problem does not correct itself.

What in the wide wide world of sports is going on with Headley and his defense? He has made some fabulous plays, last night, and yet he has also made some horrendous plays, tonight. Inconsistent to say the least.

He's pretty much just good at making quick reaction plays... but his throwing sucks and the routine plays are becoming more and more of an adventure everyday

Maybe his back was bothering him because I thought I saw him stretching. Torreseyes should have replaced him instead of Castro.

    Re: 2017 Chase Headley Thread

It's sad to see. He just doesn't have the nominal arm strength to make plays which other third basemen can.

At times it seems like he's thinking about the throw during the fielding attempt. As in "How am I going to muster up a throw across the diamond without hopping it a couple of times".
